I was on that trip Al and, if memory serves me right, we ran out of fuel travelling between the two. I believe we coasted downhill to a small bus depot and fuelled up. An even more absurd event was Gordon Riddick bringing the goalpost down at a corner during the Oldham game. A long pause before an old chap with a step ladder and tools effected running repairs. An enjoyable trip but two awful games lost 1-0 and 2-0. Happy days.

Happy days as you say Jo and Gloria reminded me this morning of M&D coach driver Ernie getting lost and coasting down the hill to a bus garage depot. Have some great memories of Away games up and down the country with the late John Leeds who collected the fares on behalf of the Blue & Whites Supporters Assn

I think that Watford trip was for the F A Cup in the 5th round. Probably 1970/71 and it wasn't a football special as such but a special fare. You paid a set fare in Kent and it covered Up to London, tube and onward train. Only special I ever went on was to Swansea, again in the cup

All this talk of away trips reminds me of October 1996 my son(only child) had been born earlier that year and I had been working almost non stop that year.7 days a week. 10 till 7 every day living and working in London.A few mates and I with my wife's blessing set off on a trip to Blackpool staying over and then on to Shrewsbury for a Tuesday night game.It had been a tough time for both my wife and I.We arrived at Blackpool not that long before kick off so agreed to sort out a b&b after the game.Because as I told them there are loads of hotels in Blackpool. Our own Tony Butler played for Blackpool and we were out classed losing 2-0.After the game we went in search of that B&B but I had not taken in to account the the Blackpool illuminations everything was full after dark we gave up trying and set off north finally finding a really grotty pub in Lancaster to stay the night. We drowned our sorrows over a few drinks before returning to a B&B we had found the day before. After a drink or two and a few better nights kip we travelled south with high hopes of a better result. At half time on the terrace at Gay meadow it was 0-0 Iffy broke the deadlock after the hour soon after they got it back all square before the highlight of the trip two or three minutes before the end Dennis Bailey scored what proved to be the winner.A rare goal his 1st for many months. We returned happy that night in many ways that trip was how supporting Gillingham over the years has been it is one I will never forget.

What a great watch, that brought back some fantastic memories. Had forgotten exactly what a hard nut he was and great to see some of the other gills greats.

You seem to be taking a lot of notice johnknee, not sure I let my daughter, if I had one, too close to you!! Surely it is better to admit to watching the Gems a few times at half time than to suggest I'd rather watch a dozen 8 year olds play with their balls down the Rainham End...

I can't take the credit, I'm afraid. I just found it while I was looking for something Gills-related. I too was there when he scored his 45-yarder against Coventry at Highfield Road. I lived in Coventry at the time and when I went into work the following day, all my Cov-supporting mate would say was "Noisy buggers, aren't you".

My favourite part of the Iffy video is when the linesman gives it the other way and Iffy just chucks the ball at him.... Always makes me smile that one...

Good point johnknee, looks like I'm going to go back to buying programmes and reading them at half time instead of watching the entertainment.
