I would too gillsjan. I understand wanting to protect him and not overuse him but I think he could play more than he has. At the very least he should have come on for Dack, who had nothing left for the last 20 mins yesterday.

Barrett made bad and costly mistake near the end, which cost us a result. It's way too simple to focus on that single instant because he kept us in the game on several occasions first half. Rotherham had a period of dominance when only Barrett stood between us and a heavy defeat. He was never quick, he's getting older but he's still a good and genuine player. I'd expect him to move down a division soon but he's been a good servant.

Sorry Gilsjan totally disagree about Barrett being a good servant he has been absolutely appalling this season and in 40 years of following the Gills I have not seen a player play so bad and keep his place in tbe team!

Agree Technical, MOM should have been Hewitt. Also, couldn't understand where Dack was playing for the first 20 mins (can only assume he had a free role) as he wasn't in the game and just kept popping up occasionally like a Merekat. As to Barrett, agree with somebody above he did ok in the first half, but a professional footballer who doesn't use his weak right foot to make a side foot clearance and instead tries to come across the ball with his left should be ashamed of himself. Sorry, but that one mistake (at best schoolboy error by an under 9) cost us 3 points. If we stay in Div 1 next season then the whole defence needs changing unless we can get Harriman on a season long loan.

Sorry, meant to add after 20 mins Dack had a decent game, but was out on his feet with 15 to go, probably die to the starting position/lack of it.

Our defence was woeful, Barratt is a natural left sided centre back. Gold dust if they are any good. The trouble is Barratt isn't, at this level. The midfield is almost non-existant, they spend most of the game protecting the back four. Both times we went in front up went the barricades, after this long the players must have realised that we can't hold on to a one goal lead, so why retreat to our penalty area every time we take the lead? Next season we need a much better back four and a player in midfield who can take charge and organise the team on the pitch.

Yes and it could be a lot worse without the miracle that is Stuart Nelson but TBF it's not Barrett who has to justify it - he doesn't pick the team and as things stand, there aren't a lot of options. I don't understand why Callum Davies was allowed to go, I thought he was doing a decent job for us. Callum Davies, hes on loan at Dover?, can we not just recall him IF we wish???.......I like the kid,and he was used a bit under Allen, and virtually nothing under PT?, we don't have stacks of options at the back either!!!!.....

Yes he is and I assume we could recall him if we wished. I think pt is a bit disappointed as I believe he hasn't played yet. If he had and got a couple of games under his belt I think he may actually have been in for a chance of playing for us based on the performance Saturday.

The thing is, whenever Davies starts, he has been poor and slightly out of his depth. No matter how talented people think he is, he shouldn't be a starter just yet. From memory, he has played more matches in a defensive midfield position than at the back. Maybe this will be where he will end up long term. Sometimes I think the call for Davies to start is more motivated by the idea of "he can't be worse than Barret / Legge (delete as per who made the last mistake)"...

Don't disagree with that at all johnknee, but I don't think we can start with that pairing again and TBH I don't think he could be worse. With Legge out with a Hamstring injury (usually 4 weeks or so) I don't see we have many options, especially as I believe Borrowdale is also injured and he would be the only other cover with McKain away at Maidenhead (I think) and he definitely isn't ready (Don't think ive missed anyone else?!). Going to need 5 across the middle against Peterborough and hope we can keep the ball away from their strikers.

I think with Davies, he's not been great this season when selected, but hasn't had a run of games. The slightly odd thing is that Legge has been the scapegoat when Taylor has got another defender in, Davies gets a game then gets dropped, but the skipper appears undroppable?

Possibly as no natural leaders, to me that doesn't say a great deal about the others!

Bottom line is,Davis shouldn't have been loaned out at this stage of the season---END OFF........What was PT thinking??? When Davies was sent out on loan we had three central defenders availiable, to lose two in a week is unlikley, but it happened. Also PT has not used Callum as a central defender since he took over, I think he sees him as a defensive midfielder and we have plenty of those. McKain has been recalled and both Legge and Inness should be availiable for Friday along with a rested Gregory and Hess. As I said on another thread to me it looked as if PT had written off our chances against Orient before the kick off, so not having Davies availiable hardly seemed to matter.
