How anybody can criticise Cody is beyond me. Martin Allen didn't pick him as first choice at the beginning of the season and did his best to destroy the lads confidence. Peter Taylor to his credit played Cody in his best position playing just off the centre forward. Taylor gave the lad back his mojo. Let's assume Cody could have got another five goals at the beginning of the season, then twenty goals in a struggling season is outstanding. Yes, Cody misses a load of chances, but so do most great goals scorers. I remember Jimmy Greaves once saying if he could score one in five chances he would end up with thirty goals in a season.. Sounds about right On another note, I thought Kedwell came on as sub and played extremely well. It makes you think how long he was carrying the injury (hernia) as he looked a different player yesterday. I know he should have looked fresh after such a long time out, but some of his touches were sublime. He never lacks effort, but If he can show this type of skill and let the younger players make the runs he must be worth another contract extension. He looked easily good enough for Div 1 on that showing. However, playing deeper with Cody making the runs worked a treat. I could not agree more, Cody proved himself with us in League 2 and has more than proved himself with us in League 1, he is a outstanding striker and if fit, should start every game, If he plays 40 games he scores 20 goals a season, simple.

With some new players next season, especially 1/2 consistent good wide players then Cody will score 20 plus next term without doubt (unless injured). Wide players playing in good quality balls into the box is what he has really missed this season. As to Kedwell, still think playing alone up front with 5 across midfield is the only way he works for us and signing him again will depend if we are going to play that way. Depends on what manager is in situ, but in any case unless he is prepared to take a reasonable drop in wages then I think he will be moving on.

I think players like Kedwell may well be useful in the event of injury or illness. Whether he would accept being on the bench a fair bit is another matter.

Most of his goals this season have come from long balls from our half of the field which have either bounced kindly for him or been flicked on. I don't remember him getting onto the end of any crosses.

Agree most balls down the middle to score, but we have not had anything wide playing in quality balls for him to get on the end of. If we had then we wouldn't have been so one dimensional and he would have scored more from that source.

But WTF are people even thinking of doubting him, he still has 15 odd goals in league one and he didnt even start playing until regular until October, some so called supporters just have to put the side they supposedly support down.......JOKE

I make no criticism of Cody; he's done well for us again. I don't however think he does, or would directly benefit from crosses as regards goalscoring. Keds and Bayo is another matter and Cody would almost certainly feed off them. The bulk of his goals have , in both spells, come from running clear or running off the shoulder of the last defender.
I'd be surprised if we sign Bayo again but anything is possible. Cody has scored alongside both partners and none. We need someone quicker as the additional front man.

It was a description of the majority of the service Cody has had this year. I just can't remember him scoring with his head, that's all. Glad you found it funny, though.

McDonald scores very few goals from crosses with his head, because the crossers of the ball are weston or the overlaping Martin, and on the right side is Hewitt/dack/fagan. It's very difficult for them to put in a low cross for mcdonald, that's also out of the defenders reach.

At present I agree Cody scores very few with his head, but that's purely down to the poor crosses. When he was here the first time we got far more crosses in and he did score a number of headers as did Bayo come to think of it. Many used to say that Cody used to hang in the air and from my memory he did indeed do that and scored some very good headers. Not saying we play that way all the time, but at least gives us options and makes the opposition have to think a bit.
