Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy's verdict : “It was a good workout for the lads, especially in the intense heat that both teams had to play in and I thought we played well and I thought we deserved to win. I can’t remember Gerks [Dean Gerken] having a save to make and I was thoroughly pleased with the performance."

It was a bit of a disappointment to lose today but I felt Taylor could take a few real positives away.
Doug Loft was outstanding and looks class. Dickenson and Arron Morris when they came on looked the part. Legge had a good game.

Did Barrett play? I pray that Taylor has sorted the defence out! Barrett didn't play till the 2nd half but we had already been raped down both flanks for long periods by then .Fish was taught a lesson and his inexperience against higher level opposition was there for all to see.He would drift infield and the ball would be played wide into the gap behind him.He would stay wide but this allowed the winger to get in on balls played shorter infield.Their left winger may have had the legs on Fish but Fish didn't have the nous to then tackle the winger before he had the ball under full control. To be fair to Fish,a guy coming back from injury trying to regain fitness was always going to struggle against a solid left winger. On the other side, the enigma that is Borrowdale was being run ragged too.IMHO,this guy has had the longest time of all to get fit and for me,always looked a few yards off the pace from the first whistle and got worse as the afternoon went on.Time for PT to tell him to go back to non league methinks.(If you can't get fit in the time he's had,you never will)That aside,we didn't look too bad against a fair championship side.We had the odd defensive wobble down the middle but regular subs in the 2nd half was always going to do that.Although their keeper wasn't very busy,we did show endeavour and some creativity up front.Several people have mentioned Loft, who I thought had a constant,if somewhat restrained role yesterday but the signing to have impressed me most is Dickenson. He has pace to burn, great control, can pass well, has an eye for goal and has a good range of crossing(Ipswich must also consider him a threat as they put 2 men on him as soon as he got the ball and he still got crosses in the box!)

I thought we were always second best, but some good and bad points for pt to ponder Loft was class and would easily have fitted into the Ipswich team. German was probably our most effective forward, but did let himself down when he had a chance to run at a final defender. Dickerson and mcglashen showed signs of real pace and skill, but my concerns were proved right from a previous post in as much as they can't defend. Egan and legge played ok together and I think they now need time now to gel. Linganzi came in for the second half and was the most effective in centre mid, other than loft in the first half. Borrowdale played some very good and precise passes, but he seems to lose concentration and therefore his position, so I guess that is why pt was giving him a chance. Fish, was 2 yards off the pace the whole time he played with some poor positional play and tackling, sorry he hasn't and won't recover enough for this division. Dack, looks overweight and slow and had little impact. Cody looked in good nick, but with no service just run a lot . With the way German was holding the ball up they may be worth a try together. Hess strong in the tackle, but needs to quicken up in midfield, but as a friendly can look past that today. The others were all so so and did ok. For me it showed we need a good left and right back as existing squad ain't good enough in those positions, that will relieve the pressure of the centre halfs who have to cover too much. The other positions have cover and we aren't going to have enough funds to buy another striker. Also pt now has two games of per season left and he must play what he believes to be his best side for 90 minutes so they can start to get the understand of each other's play. Maybe worth 4-5-1 as we now have what looks like a good attacking midfield and we would then be stronger when defending!?

I truth it was far from a great game for us as the team struggled in the heat.Fish and Borrowdale look too slow covering their runners.Hare and Loft replaced them at full back and for me improved things.Although Borrowdale can pass the ball and has lost a few pounds he is still far too slow on the turn. That left Legge and Egan a lot of work in the middle.Barrett and Davies took over later in the game and it could be that Taylor will look to play one senior and one younger centre back in a effort to bring more pace to the back line.If that is the case Legge and Egan are now the most likely starting pair. As I have said Legge played really well passing when he could and being a bit more basic when he had to be.in Midfield Dack who started on the left he looked very different with long hair and a beard and never got to grips with the game. Dickenson took over in the second half and gave the whole team a lift he has good control and movement. In the middle Loft played deep and looked like a leader he played with ease and a solid look about him.I have little doubt he will get the armband to keep real soon. Hessenthaler along side had a quiet game did not rise to the standards he set himself last season.Linganzi who replaced him was better but still off the pace.Arron Morris came on to take Loft's place holding while Loft went to help the defence.Morris looked a really good player and could well start our first match in that roll.I would quite like to see Loft and Morris together if Pritchard does not make it in time. McGlashan started on the right failed to convince although like Dickenson clearly still has pace. Up top Kedwell played a few good flick ons for German who seems to had a new start and could even make the starting line up for the first match but for me none of them including Norris and Cody did enough on the day.Although I did think Norris showed promise he looks like he needs more time. For me he did look like he was a good signing all be it not totally ready to start in league one just yet.

Pretty much fully agree with that and as my earlier post stato. I would hate to lose loft to left back as I think running at defences he will be a handful from centre midfield. Morris who came in reminded me a little of Charlie Allen, but with a little more mobility and passing depth, he will be a good cover at the very least. Norris May be a good lone striker with a 5 man midfield as he has good strength and will definitely get in front of defenders to score. On a positive I think pt has got the players to change games and will allow him to change formations quite easily. Hopefully two games of players he now sees as his first eleven so they can gel.
