There were a lot of Newcastle fans in the Gordon road stand when the steward approached them and told them the away end was the other side they said they couldn't get tickets for the away end. So the steward just told them to do their jackets up so they was not showing the Newcastle shirt.

This always confuses me so if anyone can clarify, the official stadium capacity is 11,582 and the attendance was 10,204 yet it was a sell out, where were the other 1300 :/

There were a lot of empty seats on the top level Medway stand. Is there a number that the stadium is allowed to sell due to health and safety? Or are hey allowed to sell the 11,582

Why print stadium capacities as one figure then change them for big matches does not make sense!

I think it's totally embarrassing that in the whole county of Kent, which is the second-biggest county in England that we have a stadium which can only hold 10,200 people. There should be stadium in the County with a capacity of at least 40000 whether for cricket, football, athletics, which ever. Kent Cricket Club are no better and with a decent stadium could attract the England team. Similar to the The Bowl Stadium in Southampton.
Without the support over the years from Kent County Council, Medway Council and various council members blocking of stadium plans over the last fifty years the county is woefully short of first class sports stadia. Many Gills supporters dislike the MK Dons. However, they have a first class stadium built for them in just a few years while Gillingham FC still talk about it. There have been so many clubs the same standard as the Gills with new stadiums in the last few years, Brighton, Colchester, Rotherham, MK Dons, Walsall, Doncaster to mention a few. The Gills just stand still.
I had hoped to live long enough to watch the Gills in a wonderful new stadium with the ambition to fill it. I've seen the various plans over the years and every time they get rejected for one reason or another. The local council seem to have gone out of their way to obstruct the Gills Stadium plans for years. Many supporters say we can't fill Priestfield so why bother. That's the small minded view which holds the club back. I suggest like Rotherham the gates would double or even treble with a new stadium and the facilities to go with it. Kent needs a first class facility, why not in the Medway Towns and home to the Gills. As I say, it's embarrassing.

Greyfox.......I agree with you 100 per cent.
Kent is a huge county and many people living there, it's got to happen one day that we mighty gills get a decent stadium with a 30.000 capacity and surely we can increase revenue streams and attract better calibre of players who would want to play in a decent arena. The present ground is horrible and located in a not so nice area of gillingham with very limited parking facilities and access to and from is a nightmare too and does discourage some fans from going to matches.
Not sure scally is the man to make it happen with the gills. I would like to see somebody take the reins and move us up a level, I have never been a scally fan.

I'm not Scally's no 1 supporter either but over the years he's took some stick he may not have deserved, the Pulis thing was by far not his fault, maybe the same with Martin Allen, as time goes past I am starting to think he wants better things for our club.

Years ago when I had a season ticket in the old main stand I sat next to Mick Gooding who was then assistant to Jimmy Quinn at Reading he told me about the plans for a new stadium at Reading basically leaving Elm Park! I remember he wasn't too chuffed when I virtually laughed at him abd said Reading have got a smaller support than us they will never get larger crowds to fill a new stadium! Around 20 years later I have been proved wrong the success they have had basically due to Majeski and the new stadium dwarfs what Gills have achieved! Paul Scally is not popular with a lot of people that is one of the sticking points in a hunt for a new ground!

We will have to continue to dream, but I think it will happen over the next decade and hopefully long before I'm pushing up the daisies. As to the Newcastle attendance don't we have to give them a certain percentage which I thought I read they didn't sell.

Reading had a sugar daddy who funded the club - sometimes they work sometimes they don`t! Colchester have a new stadium and have lower attendances than us
