Gills: G. Morris, Hoyte, Davies, Legge, Martin, Dack, Hessenthaler, Pritchard, Dickenson, McDonald and Norris: Gills subs: Hadler, Fish, McKain, Millbank and German
Stevenage: Day, Whelpdale, Walton, Charles, Calcutt, Wells, Lee, Okimo, Lancaster, Henry and Deacon: Stevenage subs: Beasant, Ashton, Zola, Marriott and Casey
First Half: Former Gills Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee start against their old club mates and it was an even contest for the first ten minutes or so with Gills enjoying some freedom on the ball without testing Day in Stevenage goal.
Charlie Lee was playing centre midfield and raced easily past Jake Hessenthaler before crashing a shot that Glenn Morris had to have two attempts at controlling before clutching to his chest. Whelpdale also showing good touches putting over two good crosses and linking well with Charlie Lee no doubt hoping to put one over on their previous employers.
Stevenage 0 v Gills 1: Sixteen minutes and Gills get a penalty nicely converted by Luke Norris. This was because Stevenage goalie Chris Day brought down Cody McDonald as he ran into the area - and as he was the ‘last man’ everyone in the ground thought it would result in a red card. The referee Darren Deadman decided it was only worth a yellow.

Stevenage 0 v Gills 1 (Luke Norris penalty):
Stevenage lucky to still have goalie Day on the pitch but are not fazed by going a goal behind as they re-group and the lively Charlie Lee brilliantly moves into the box, beats defenders and fired a neat shot just wide of the post.
Man of the Match Award so far for ex-Gills Charlie Lee – obviously trying to prove some point to Peter Taylor. He had another effort on 35 minutes with a sharp turn and shot on target.
Following the goal Gills have gone strangely quiet and Stevenage are beginning to get on top and looking the most likely team to score.
Five minutes to the break and Stevenage nearly score when two great shots from Whelpdale and Calcutt force desperate blocks from Hessenthaler and Legge in protecting Morris in the Gills goal.

Second Half: Devante McKain and Antonio German are second half subs replacing Joe Martin and Cody McDonald respectively.
Great opportunity right at the start of the second period as Dickenson raced into the box latching on to a through ball but initial effort saved by Day and Luke Norris in a great postion for the rebound failed to control his diving header that went over the bar. Must say that Dickenson has great pace when given the opportunity.
Gills certainly need a second goal to keep the home side down as Stevenage keep coming forward looking for the equalizer but at the moment Gills are defending very well. Central defender Legge went up the other end and forced a header wide of Day’s post. This was copied minutes later by Devante McKain who also headed just wide from a corner.
Nearly on the hour as Walton crossed for Calcutt to put a free header past Morris in the Gills goal but he was clearly offside and the home crowd had to sit back in their seats.

Stevenage 0 v Gills 1
Great tackle from Leon Legge that stopped Henry from unleashing a shot on goal and straight up the other end for Gills with Dickenson forcing a great stop from Day in the Stevenage goal. The loose ball fell to Antonio German who unfortunately thumped the ball high wide and not very hansom giving home fans something to laugh at.
Mini disaster for Gills on 63 minutes as ‘Deadly Deadman’ referee sends of Hoyte for a poor tackle on Rory Deacon – straight red and he will be missing for Friday’s game against Coventry.

Now down to ten men Gills have re-organised, packing midfield and getting ready for a defensive battle for the remaining 17 or so minutes.
Stevenage push forward and Chris Whelpdale shoots over the bar followed by Deacon who had his effort saved well down by Morris. The Gills goalie stops a great shot from Lancaster but could only parry down to Calcutt who, with the goal at his mercy, had his effort deflected by Morris over the bar. Great goalkeeping by the Gills man.
80 minutes gone and subsitutes for Stevenage to push for their equalizer are strikers Calvin Zola and Marriott to replace Calcutt and Deacon.
Four minutes to go and Stevenage on the final push with Whelpdale, Lee and Zola all having quarter chances and a header from Zola direct from a corner was well saved by Morris – who is Gills Man of the Match by a mile. “deadly Deadman’ awards 4 minutes of added time and there is no extra time in this contest – straight to penalties.
Charlie Lee booked for diving in the time added on for injury. Bradley Dack also booked. Last chance for Stevenage as Charles hits a volley wide of Morris’s post.
Final: Stevenage 0 v Gills 1 (Luke Norris penalty).

A really good report thank i blue. I went last night so here are my views.
Glenn Morris showed any who doubted that he is a good keeper. With some good saves.
Hoyte A fine first hour was clearly damaged by a bad tackle. Legge Solid at the back won most if not all in the air.Looked uncomfortable with the ball at his feet.
Davies Strangly given the captains armband did well on the night I felt Taylor clearly had a motive for naming him as skipper. My guess is he wants Davies to man up a bit.
Martin Another good 45 mins I have been impressed by Joe since his return from injury.org

Sorry on old computer that logs itself out so will do shortish bits in case.
Dack largely carried on from the weekend battled hard when down to 10.Hope that doesn't take away anything from his game on Friday.
Pritchard 1st 90 in a gills shirt mainly at centre mid went to full back after the senting off. A hard working performance with really proving himself enough to be given a starting place.
Hess My Mom again. Some really good passes and tackles.
Dickenson quick gave Stevenage problems for the first hour worked hard at the end of the game.
Cody played deep at times with Gills leaving young Norris up on his own.Cody looked sharp on the break.Won the penalty that won the tie.
Norris Again impressed strong and quick some clever turns.Cool spot kick. Will push Keds for his place which has to be a good thing.
Mckain Good in the air as he showed almost scoring and with a few defensive headers looked to be playing out of his comfort zone at left back so I will forgive the fact that he looked to have struggled on the deck.
German The crowd sung there's only one good German unfortunately that was not Antonio last night. However with the sending off he largely played in midfield but on this show he will struggle to get ahead of Norris.

I think this club are going places, the confidence these wins will give us is priceless, it will be a big ask Friday but we are not going to be relegation candidates, I'm so pleased the coventry game is on TV as I can't get there, it's rosy in kent at the moment, come on you gills.

Pritchard shouldn't read with proving himself it should be'without proving himself'

Best thing about last night result apart was the spirit and fight the boys had throughout.I admit I was worried that we have not got enough senior pros with Loft, keds, jermaine, Cody 2nd half and others left out some of the young lads were given a difficult task last half hour.In the words of Brendon Rogers our young lads ran through a bardwire fence last night. It's nights like that that will give us the spirit to fight to the end of the season. It will lay the platform for future success.

Good result in a competition we should go for as there is nothing like a Wembley trip. Full back cover through injury/possible suspension is a cause for concern. Good match report, thanks for that as I couldn't go,...Sounds like Charlie Lee is in his 'honeymoon' period like he was that month he had on loan here!! Surely Stevenage haven't been saddled with 3 years high wages though?!!

Saw the game at Stevenage last night.I thought the young lads did well, although they made hard work of it at times. The Johnson Paint trophy is probably our best chance of a great day out to Wembley. As for Paul Scally, I have seen the man a few times, but have never spoken to him so it's fair to say I do not know him. However any person who can own a Football League team for twenty years, remain solvent, financially healthy, must be doing something right. Let's be grateful about that.
