Hello, I am the nephew of the Doc who would have been 100 this year ( Dec 27th 2014).
My memory of home games were chants of " Grossmark out" but I was under the impression that the Doc was devoted to Gillingham FC.
I am not in contact with Dr Grossmark's son and I was wondering if Gillingham FC are going to mark the occasion ?
I am hoping some of you older fans have good memories of the Doc.
Kind regards
Jonathan Grossmark

Good morning doc welcome. This is something different for this forum to think about. Well before my time but there must be fans that do have some memories.

The Good Doctor was a legend in his lifetime according to my father and was a great friend of the Club. There have been many references about the Doc on the GillsConnect over the years and below are two links for some of them. The first is self-explanatory: tinyurl.com/n4bk9l2 and in the second there is an photograph of the Doc (at the very end of the article) taken at an important time in Gills history: tinyurl.com/kapon8c

That is a very interesting article iblue. I wonder if someone could arrange for an announcement to be made during our last home match in December.?

Well gillsjan, we could try but both Roger Triggs (Club historian) and GillsConnect have ask the Club in the past for announcements/recognition of past payers etc but have received a negative response. Hopefully Roger Triggs will send in a request.

Interesting piece and all new to me. A name I have not come across, but the club seems to owe him a debt of gratitude. Would hope some words are said.

Seem to remember that he used to have a personalised plate on his car GFC 1 so was instantly recognised around the towns. I believe they also had GFC 2. It was the days when the club also owned quite a few houses around Medway for their staff and players. Unheard of these days.

I read somewhere once that Dr Grossmark re-mortgaged his house so Gillingham fc could buy a player, that's just, wow

The good doctor died while on a trip to watch the Gills at Walsall and at his funeral there were 92 floral tributes – one from each league club.
The above says it all really in how the doctor was seen around the entire football league at the time – currently, and I wish our Chairman no ill health or harm – this is something that Mr. Scally could only dream of happening in the future in my opinion.
