A couple of weeks ago when James Russell left the club, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth about what a terrible decision it was and that Peter Taylor didn't know the first thing about fitness training etc.
However, since then the consensus seems to be that the work rate of the team has generally increased and we've even been scoring goals in injury time at the end of the game. Could it be (shock! horror!) that Peter Taylor actually got this one right and the reason our team looked so tired was that the over-emphasis on fitness training was leaving the team knackered for match days ?
Just a thought.

In a word No, you forget we conceded last minute against LO as well, was just dead lucky to have scored again after that in a MUST WIN home game, as for yesterday we were playing 5 up front at the end and it paid off, but it was not down to fitness, to be fair, Bradford should have had the game dead and buried by then.

If (and its a big if) we suddenly go injury free in a couple of months, then maybe. I still think James Russell did a great job

We were conceding late goals before Russell left as well. Now we are also scoring them, and looking sharp for the full 90 minutes.

I hadn't forgotten the late goal against LO, but surely the point is that we then had the legs to go on and win. And it's no good playing five up front if no-one's chasing after the ball.

A change of face or daily routine may be just what was needed, only time will tell

Hard to say as we don't know what the regime was before, or do we?
It's certainly true that if you've been following a hard programme for several months, a rest or a change can bring amazing results. BUT it's the work that went before that is the reason for the results - the body adapts/strengthens itself during the rest phase but it doesn't help if you haven't put in the work first.
I'd imagine Russell knows that though and regular easier weeks were scheduled anyway.

No Mistert, I'm afraid this is wide of the mark.
It's the pre-season where most of the fitness levels are achieved - during the season with two matches a week, the emphasis is on recovery and maintaining fitness (i.e. not improving fitness). Therefore, the fitness levels you're seeing now would be a result of James Russell's work. Taylor has never questioned the fitness levels - and in fact usually praises the players for effort. The other thing to look at is match possession stats. Against Bradford and Orient, we had a good share of possession, so we're not chasing the ball all of the time and getting tired as a result. If you spend 90 minutes chasing the ball, you're going to be tired at the end and therefore more likely to concede and less likely to score.
