Having just read the above referenced article my ancient grey matter keeps telling me that many moons passed it was not unusual to have a Brass Band playing at half time, no concept of anything other than football prior to 1994? My vote says lets keep our kiddies pen competition, the Gems or even introduce a Trad Jazz band.

I personally really like the kids penalty shootout and I think this is brilliant for the kids to perform in front of a crowd. The cheers support this and I would like to see it continued. Don't really watch the girls but don't dislike the music and appreciate that they may be a pleasant distraction at half time. I don't do away games so unsure what other teams in the league do.

Penalties should stay and again if people want the gems, not my cup of tea, then let them as they obviously work hard at what they do. Should also try other things and I'm of the opinion if you don't want to watch you don't have to. What's not enjoyable to me maybe to others.

This is not new and there were many attempts to widen the entertainment on offer beyond the traditional brass band long before the 90s. I can certainly recall the red carpet at Orient, our own legends, parachutists landing on the pitch, mass displays of ball skills by youngsters, ill fated ventures involving mini skirted girls and that absurd game the other year involving plastic rings. I am sure that I have missed many, many more of the weird and varied entertainments.
Whatever is decided it's worth remembering two fundamentals. This is football, we are football fans and the general approval of penalty shoot outs bears this out. The idea that we can somehow morph into American football and provide 5 hours of family "entertainemt" is a nonsense. The second is that we really, really do not want some self appointed promotions type to tell us where we are going wrong. If we must try new things then let's do just that, try them. Most will fail and be forgotten like all the nonsense from the past. Football crowds enjoy themselves most when making up their own stuff so fewer giant hands, goal celebration music and the like please.
