I sincerely hope we bring in the best manager possible for the gills job. Somebody with a fresh approach and decent contacts that likes his teams to express themselves.
Wonder if there is a surprise around the corner.

See my rely on the Justin Edinburgh thread. It doesn't appear that it's done and dusted with him staying at Newport. The probability is that he will, but he hasn't signed an extension on the dotted line yet.

I just think there's no-one who stands out. No one exciting candidate, unless there's someone who's being kept very secret.
The recent results are flattering the new management team because of the poor quality of the opposition and one outstanding short-term loanee but in the absence of a fantastic candidate, I might stick with it until the end of the season. I think they can keep us up (as PT would have!) and I don't see the point in spending loads on someone who's not going to do any better than that this season.
I would be very interested to know what the actual hierarchy is. It can't be a team of equals, that doesn't exist, even if no official leader, a team always develops one. I don't think it's Hess, I couldn't see him in the dug-out 2nd half on Saturday and the football doesn't feel like Hess' football to me. I've always liked Steve Lovell, I'd like to know exactly how much input he's having into the current set up.

They have a euro millions winner as their chairman and release a couple of strikers recently . Be interesting to see if any new players are signed by newport in the coming days. If he doesn't join us , I think we should look overseas for our new boss, bring in a fresh exciting manager, if Scally has long term investment in the pipeline, we need to be playing well and that should be reflected in our results. Very happy that ardley turned us down. Don't rate the fella one bit. If Scally makes the wrong appointment again, then he will set the club back financially, we require somebody with vision and a presence who we can say , there are exciting times ahead, bring a European approach and flavour to our club, not the usual lower league boss without connections. In this game , who you know goes a long way in football.

With the short-term way opinions seem to work here, why would we want Edinburgh? His team have conceded 7 goals and scored none in the last 2 games. He's obviously lost it!!!

If we get a result at Bristol City on Thursday, Stevie Lovell and Mark Patterson might get the job! Although somehow I don't think it will be long before the white smoke comes out of Priestfield(nothing to do with the catering) as the transfer window shuts in a week and we are crying out for a experienced ball winning midfielder@

I'm surprised about the comments of there being no outstanding candidates. While we don't know who has been interviewed, there are some very fine managers with good track records out of work that we shouldn't dismiss. Remember Uwe Rosler? Promoted at Brentford, play offs with Wigan I the Championship. Would Brian McDermott, Dave Jones, Billy Davies or Tony Mowbray drop down a level? Dougie Freedman did a great job at Palace- took them from relegation probables to play offs and a play off position before joining Bolton. I don't get the negativity about Mark Yates. I've said it before, but he did a terrific job at Cheltenham after taking over from Allen and taking them to the play offs, I think for 2 seasons. The other id have on a shortlist is Paul Ince. He's record at our level is decent and he's a name. It's not worked at a higher level and he's not stayed anywhere long enough, but we could do worse.
I think there is enough out there that could do a job. Personally, I'd have appointed Rosler, if he were interested, about a day after Taylor was sacked, but if we got Freedman, Yates or any of the others I've mentioned, I'd be pretty happy

The weakness is most definitely midfield Specifically the lack of a midfield general. We have enough creativity there, but lack grit

With regard to a Manager we need someone who has experience in running a team in this division or higher. When we first went up we found to our disadvantage that there was a massive difference between playing in division 2 and the standard of play required for division 1. This caught both PS and Martin Allen out big time.

What caught MA out,was Scally not letting him strengthen during the summer. I remember he wanted Marlon Pack but said we hadn't got the money, yet as soon as Taylor came in, he was given the chance to sign several loans and last summer making permanent signings

I still believe relegation is a real threat, and a manager with experience at League One level is important, not just someone 'young and flamboyant'.
Dickie Dosh is that man, although prising him from Cambridge will take some doing at the moment.
Edinburgh's appointment wouldn't excite me, in fact, nor does anyone in the betting list.
