Keith Curle says he wants to meet any future signings to assess character etc before offering terms. Is it just me who's surprised that this isn't just standard practice?

With you there, technical. Given the investment, it seems odd there is no meeting in some cases. You'd have thought that managers would sound out other managers to discuss a player as well. Always amazes me when a manager signs a player he hasn't seen play

My guess is that if managers are not meeting players prior to signing them, then a trusted assistant or scout is meeting them. I think what Curle at Carlisle is getting at is a meeting where a psychological battery is given to figure out any character weaknesses etc. Would this player be a good clubhouse influence or a lone wolf and so on? From all I have read recently about Kedwell - loved the club - but he was a negative and self-centered character. A test might have sussed that out.

Me too technical, can't think of any jobs you would get without a formal interview/chat at the very least. As to the money, bloody agents in this sport need to be monitored.

He surely can't have seen Tony Sinclair play either!

The club has a network of scouts who will watch players as well as DVD assessment
