Another name to throw in the hat, in the running last time is Stephen Constantine. Worked overseas, so maybe one that was interviewed this week. Lack of League experience maybe, but supposedly a good coach. Remembering that some of the other names being thrown about have not been inspiring either, maybe it would be better to get off the managerial merry-go-round and try someone fresh. Bearing in mind unless the manager brings unexpected success he probably won't be here two years from now anyway, unless its Hess

I remember reading he had applied unsucessfully last time round. Seems to have coached a lot of small national sides (currently India?) but never managed in UK. I don't know what would have changed to make him a better candidate now than he was 2 years ago.

Another person similar to Constantine is Johnny Mckinstry, currently working for ITV 4s coverage of the African Cup of nations. Both would be a very big gamble.

Constantine gets mentioned every time we have a vacancy. He desperately wants to work in the uk but no-one has taken a gamble on him. There must be a reason for that?

It is exactly that, a gamble but surely whoever gets it, it is the same. Beattie got sacked by a Div2 club, Edinburgh is untried at L1, Kuqi has only managed in Finland, and the rest as far as we know are all managers that have not exactly set the world alight. I am not saying he is any good, just that maybe by working abroad it is not considered as worthy as the English league. I think he got overlooked because the clamour for MA to get the job swayed Scally, and then when he was sacked PT was available so no one else was even considered. Just another name that could be in the frame

We of course will never likely to know how close Constantine got last time so it would be wrong to totally rule out Scally returning to old ground with him or anybody else. But this Young manager comment does point more to someone younger.I have a feeling that Scally is going through the list almost for the sake of it before returning for some he has targeted all along.I still think the person will be someone under 45-ish and currently employed in some coaching or managing roll.

A look on Wikipedia will show that he has just joined India as national coach

Just to correct, Beattie resigned and wasn't sacked. From what I understand, he wasn't pushed either. Not saying I want him as our boss, but let's make sure we aren't ruling out candidates on the wrong grounds. I've said in another post, the idea that there aren't good people out there is simply inaccurate. Take a look at the out of manager list on the LMA and you'll find plenty of interesting names

Beattie, Kuqi, Constantine and Edinburgh have never managed in League One, let alone the wrong end, and don't have the experience Gillingham need in my humble opinion. By stating that he wants a 'young and flamboyant' manager Mr Scally has made choices a lot slimmer.

I still think we should employ a Manager who has league 1 experience age I don't think is that important. You can have a 50 year old who has as much energy and desire to achieve who has the experience to take us forward and has been around long enough to build the necessary contact base.

I think the "young and flamboyant" comment was just a dig at PT after they fell out.
It's all relative and when you get to Scally's age, "young" isn't as young as it used to be, I believe the new man could be anything under 55 and fulfil PS's requirements there.

A few English managers working aboard are here. Not sure if any would have applied and of course there is a chance the people Scally are meeting are not Brits at all. uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/brits-abroad-six-coaches-isles-never-heard-165706548.htmlA few I have never heard of but personally while bring someone in from outside the English system would scare me a bit there would also be a real excitement in it.Footballs football after all and lets not kid our selves that we have the best coaches in the world in the UK. We don't so I welcome Scally looking beyond this country even if we end up with a UK based manager.

i cant believe how lenient you are all being, the longer this goes on the more impressive the appointment has to be, why wait 5-6-7 weeks to end up appointing someone like james beattie, time is moving on quickly, 4 weeks have passed now, but its ok because we have back to back wins, at home, against average opposition which has basically saved PS, but for me, still taking too long, but he is probably enjoying that 5k a week saving on releasing 3 players

Will everyone be so happy if they get a hammering tomorrow night and then lose at the weekend. The longer the wait goes on the less enthusiasm and probably criticism for whoever gets the job from some people. The Sun article about The Gills being ripe for a takeover is very convenient for PS, considering he has been in Dubai for the last decade supposedly looking for investors. We can all take that story with a pinch of salt. I might have a punt on Wiggy Wise heading our way
