CHESTERFIELD 1 (Clucas) v GILLS 0
Gills looking a bit stunned by the early goal but sometimes these early strikes are not a pointer to what hap[pens in the next 87 minutes - we hope!
John Marquis tries a shot on target but saved by vetran Tommy Lee in the Chesterfield goal.
Spoke to soon as Chesterfield rattle in a second as a great cross comes over that Max Ehmer failed to cut out and Jay O;Sheaputs puts it in from close range with Nelson helpless.

CHESTERFIELD 2 v GILLS 0
Things are looking black for Gills as only 15 minutes on the clock and losing by two goals. A long road back but first they have to re-organise and settle. Edinburgh is directing on the touchline.
17 minutes: Loft trying to get things going in midfield and the next goal is important - it has to be from Gills!
18 minutes: Free-kick for Gills taken by Loft but taken in his chest comfortably by Tommy Lee in goal.
20 minutes: Good movement from Gills as they seem to be settling and Dack pushes forward well only to be stopped on the edge of the Chesterfield penalty area.
22 minutes: Good save from Nelson as he came out fast to grab a through ball - the Gills defence looking a bit shaky as the Chesterfield players are running directly at them.
25 minutes: Muldoon brings down a running Talbot and free-kick to Chesterfield but came to nothing.
26 minutes: Gills have a free-kick taken by Joe Martin just over the wall but just wide of Tommy Lee's post - good effort but no goal.

CHESTERFIELD 2 v GILLS 0
Still no real penetration from Gills although everyone is working very hard to keep defending and moving the ball into promoising position.
Gills very nearly get one back through first a cross by Hoyte and headed on by Cody to John Marquis and then his header brought a brilliant stop by Tommy Lee to deny the Gills striker.
Jack Hessenthaler comes on for Joe Martin who is not looking good as he hobbles off in the 32nd minute.
34 minutes: Chesterfield nearly score a third as Jay O'Shea struck a right foot effort inside that flashed narrowly wide of Nelson's right hand post. Gills have re-shuffled their line-up to accommodae Hessenthlaer and Hoyte now that Martin is missing from left-back.
36 minutes: Referee refused a Chesterfield appeal for a penalty - seen them given for a soft foul but the crowd were the main shouters for this and the ref waved his hand in dismissal.
Despite the two goal deficit Gills are at last beginning to get some foothold in this game and a goal from the blue boys could do wonders. Bradley Dack picks up his seventh booking of the season for an robust foul.
40 minutes:' Good effort from the dangerous Jay O'Shea that was easily caught by Stuart Nelson.
43 minutes: Free-kick by Bradley Dack that zoomed toward the top corner but it just went over with Tommy Lee well beaten.
45 minutes + 2 added minutes: Talbot for Chesterfield goes on a run but Hessenthaler tracks back well to stop the danger.
47 minutes: corner for Chesterfield but defended well by Gills and loft tries to get a Gills attack going but broken down and back come Chesterfield for another corner. Thankfully it comes to nothing.
Dreadful start by Gills giving a goal away in three minutes and then conceding a second with a few minutes more. However, there are a few signs that Gills can pull something out of this game as it is far more even then those first minutes.

CHESTERFIELD 2 v GILLS 0 - Second half starts with no changes Attendance 4804 (179 Gills fans)
48 minutes: Nice run by Hess and cross to Cody who mis-=directed his header when perhaps he should have found the target. Chesterfield appearing to take it easy at the moment and long may it continue until Gills pull one back.
Edinburgh sends on McGlashan the Flash in place of Oliver Muldoon and he is into the action straight away. McGlashan nearly finds his way through the defence but his final pass let him down and collected by Tommy Lee.
55 minutes: Another good run by McGlashan who crossed for Cody but his header went wide. Good movement and Gills getting on top. One goal back would see the Gills momentum onto a draw - well, we can hope!
60 minutes: Chesterfield drive into Gills area and it takes a great block from Ehmer to force the ball away from the danger area.
65 minutes: Shot from Jay O'Shea blocked again by a mobile Max Ehmer. Chesterfield doing enough in the midfield to stop Gills creating much and seem content to ease on their lead.
67 minutes: Brack forced his way into the area and the ball runs out to Loft who drives a right foot effort well saved by Tommy Lee.
68 minutes: Chesterfield looking very sharp for a chance with some nice passing and force a corner. The ball arrives at the feet of Clucas who tried hard for his second of the night but past the post for a goal kick.
Twenty minutes left and the Gills need a goal to liven the game otherwise this match looks like being Edinburgh's first away defeat since he took charge at Priestfield.

CHESTERFIELD 2 v GILLS 0
72 minutes: John Marquis comes off to be replaced by Luke Norris. Chesterfield have the goals but Gills have not played particularly well this evening to make any impression and this defeat might be a wake-up call now that Play-offs will be out of the question.
74 minutes: Another Gills forward movement was broken up and on the breakaway Chesterfield's Banks has a nice effort that flashes just wide of Nelson's post.
75 minutes: Clucas and Banks combine well and cause mayhem in Gills defence but thankfully the final ball was not good enough to worry Stuart Nelson in the Gills goal. Gills have not really tested Tommy Lee in the Chesterfield goal throughout this match and overall it has been a below average performance deserving nil points.
77 minutes: Another corner for Chesterfield by Banks and punched clear by Stuart Nelson. Gills try to get forward but snuffed out again in midfield. Not enough steel and skill in midfield for Gills and the result is telling. Edinburgh looks a bit glum on the touchline.
80 minutes:Good work by Chesterfield but the final ball falls to Jay O'Shea who blasts over the Gills barinto row Z when he should have made Nelson save.
83 minutes: Chesterfield: substitute as Gboly Ariyibi comes off and veteran Ritchie Humphreys arrives.
87 minutes: Dack combines with Max Ehmer but it comes to nothing as Chesterfield cruise toward the end but then disaster as Gills lose the ball and Chesterfield score their third via Clucas who notched his second of thje night. Gills lost the ball in midfield and Clucas was put clean through and passed the ball through Stuart Nelson's legs.
90 minutes + 4 added minutes: Chesterfield waste some time sending on two subs - don't know why as they have beaten Gills comfortably. Announcer says that Sam Clucas is Man of the Match and he tries another shot on target to get his hat-trick.
CHESTERFIELD 3 v GILLS 0 - a bit of a thumping!
This was a poor performance from Gills considering their recent games and even though they have gone twelve unbeaten (up to tonight) they still require a few more points to stay in League One. Three home points against Colchester on Saturday will be a must as Gills only have two more points than at the same stage last season where they struggled but eventually escaped relegation.

Well our play off dreams are certainly over just need 6 points to stay up! Worried that we lost so easy tonight but Gills could put tonight behind them with a decent performance and win on Saturday!
We do need to play better than our last two home league matches though!

Cheers I-blue, reads like we got a bit of a hiding. Agree technical, forget playoffs and let's concentrate on 6 points to see us safe.

I honestly don't think 6 points will be enough. this season I think it could even be a record number of points that go down. I would say 55 points would be enough To guarantee us safety.

Where does the 12 unbeaten come from ? You could say it was the first time in twelve games that we have lost with 11 men on the pitch!!
I was thinking of going to Crawley away but last nights result has made me think again!

This season has always been about staying up and hopefully finishing somewhere around the middle. It was nice to dream for a bit when we were on a fantastic run. The challenge will be to go on 2 or 3 similar runs next season so we can challenge for the playoffs. We'll need a number of new players to strengthen the squad to make that a reality though

Totally with you hess.Nice dream but in truth we are not ready yet.We need to build slowly to move forward any promotion could not have been backed up at this point. We know that our squad is strong enough to stay in this league without large scale investment in the team.If JE can bring in a few wise signings in the close season we really have a chance next term.At least our run may prove to a player or two that a move to Gills could have a bright future.Rome wasn't build in a day.At least we are not looking over our shoulders too much now a sound run in should see us finish mid table.

Will be interesting to see where JE thinks we need strengthening. I think we need a centre back as Ehmer will go back, so possibly two, left back/ cover, two bigger midfielders as a minimum. If marquis goes then another decent/proven striker. Do want much do I!!

You're probably not far wrong though muppet. I'd assume a few will be moved on- I can't see German or Legge getting a deal and Joe Martin may be vulnerable with his recent injury record. We've recently moved on Linganzi and I think Ehmer will be out of reach (though I'd like to be wrong). That leaves us needing cover at right back, at least one left back, 2 centre backs, a midfielder and 2 strikers. I hope they are young and hungry and will be interesting to see the quality of player JE can bring in
