Another good win for the ladies and now japan in the semis. Nicely taken first goal after a defensive mistake and second a looping header that the keeper should have done better with. Had our backs against the wall in the 2nd half and will need to up our game against the Japanese to win, but it's a one off cup game and anything possible.

Yes well done GB ladies amazing result England ladies please.Jodie Taylor (striker) really impressed early on.But they will have to up there game to have a chance against a very good Japan side on Wednesday night. The only way they can win is by turning it into a physical battle do that then they may just get through.

England Ladies had a good start but at 2-0 they seemed to lose the plot and Canada applied tremendous pressure. We held on despite the fact that we didn't seem able to hold possession and resorted to long ball out of defense. When we had the keeper exchange I feared the worst but we protected her well and she was only called on a couple of times. I think Japan, Germany and the US are more technically accomplished than the English Ladies so it will come down to heart and luck. We have the heart and the latter is anybody's guess. Come on you Lionesses....

Totally agree sunnyboy in your summary. I think we will need to resort to old style English centre forward play to beat the Japanese.

Best England footballing achievement for almost 50 years. Fantastic, but also slightly embarrassing.

Maybe this will be a wake up call for the lads I doubt it, unfortunately. Just like the call for the sportsmanship which pervaded the Olympics to be carried over into the following football season. Also interesting to note the largely sympathetic media coverage of Laura Bassett's oggy compared to any mistake from England's men. Chivalrous reaction or lack of interest from the readership of the tabloids?

Talking of Olympics other than in England we do not field a side which is a real shame but the answer could be simple. The Olympic the pick the best to represent GB in each sport. Why not in view of the various FA's etc just field the best team in the UK there by at this time it would be England in the next Olympic's for women. But in mens it would be more difficult to agree because of the number of games they already play but maybe a rotation policy would be the answer.Or the best record at under 21 level for the last few years.

Been talked about for years, the various fa's can never agree a format. Would be good for us supporters if they did and the u21 record isn't a bad idea stato.

The English FA wanted to field GB side in London but the other FAs resisited it. The refused to even turn up for the negotiations, believing it would be the beginning of the end for their own national sides and TBH they're probably right. So, the GB team that did play was very much an English team, although there were some brave Welshmen who defied the Welsh FA to play.
