Did the sending off change the complexion of the game ?
Did loft deserve to be sent off ?
That's not the first time his sending off has effected the game.
Egan a much better leader than Loft and should be the captain.

Lousy news today. Sounds like a thumping to me. Will wait for the match report but 3 to zero at home is hard to take. This seems to be our pattern - just when we really believe the team brings reality crashing back into our lives. Maybe a top 6 finish is more like it. COYG...

I did not go to the game but was wondering up till the sending off , was it a even match ? Because I expected us to come on strong during the second half but less a player is difficult , especially against a well drilled side like Burton who has the best defence in our division.
I just hope we can find some momentum quickly because xmas is a crucial time to be playing well .

Frankly it wasn't football. We were not allowed to tackle in fact Bradley Dack didn't or more likely couldn't any touch and the ref brought his card out Burton players understandably played up to it. Did Loft deserve to go no. Did we deserve defeat maybe yes. There were too many players below par. In saying that Nelson won man of match and maybe deserved it. That alone tells a story. But there were those who played well I prefer to focus on them. Samuel and Hess were the pick of the out field players Dominic held up the ball well and won good possession Hess battled away and played some good balls. However we lacked that spark from Dack. The ref almost booked any foul we did that makes life almost impossible. It was no way a dirty game. I can't remember a bad challenge in the game. Nobody was booked for desent. Oshilaja who like Jackson had a poor match was booked for a hand ball on the touchline miles from our goal. Loft was booked twice for nothing fouls. The end of the day Justin has to tell the players to forget it frankly bad days happen. Yes the ref was a joke and so were we at times. But we did OK in patches when given the chance to play. We did produce a few chances before and after the sending off. But they didn't go in. Mistakes were made but frankly the players deserve credit for staying on the pitch as it at least appeared we were playing 12 men. The players like the mostly quiet crowd could not believe it. Yes it was that bad. The crowd chants of of 1-0 2-0 etc to the referee were loud and must have been what the players were thinking. I promise you that a couple of seasons back Bradley Dack would have lost it big time. It is to his and our other young players credit that they stayed out there and tried to turn it around against all odds. Best forgotten. Justin will need to keep his thoughts to himself until he meets the players on Monday then he maybe has the biggest and most difficult week since he arrived. We go to Millwall still up there let's face it we knew that we still needed to improve to make the step up. The players the whole squad needs to pull together we need to support them as best we can. We can go again Millwall is far from ideal but a good start there and then who knows it will be a great place to turn it around.

Colchester for example committed one fewer fouls than us but the ref there didn't book anyone for them. I have not been so frustrated by a referee ever it sure was a crazy game.

The conditions were terrible which didn't help, ref was awful but that's not why we lost.
Loft absolutely did deserve to go. 2 terrible and unnecessary tackles, one off the ball, albeit that the game should have been stopped for a foul against him just before that one.
Our passing was dreadful, possibly not helped by the wind, but dreadful even so which meant that despite some decent play at times it never went anywhere. The midfield was lacklustre, to the extent that at times Hessenthaler looked quick! He did have a reasonable game IMO.
They weren't s good side IMO, but big and tight at the back which meant that after Loft's stupidity (even if it was provoked, he's a grown up and captain)we didn't stand a chance.
I think you can tell how the side played when the goalkeeper gets MOM in a 3-0 defeat :-D

I don't agree Egan is a good captain though, his own form has been awful when he has the armband. Cody maybe? He was the only one trying to whip them up today.

As professional footballers they shouldn't need anyone to gee them up! Not sure Cody would currently tbe right pick as he is not really doing anything himself, one of our worst performers today. Maybe Nelson would be worth a go, he is at least pretty vocal.

Agree, I don't think there's an obvious choice.

Well that made my prediction of 3-0 to the Gills look silly and Cody to score 2 even sillier!
We were absolute crap today,Burton were the better side but their underhand tactics left a bitter taste in my mouth!
Someone asked me tonight if I thought Loft was the worse Gills Captain that I have seen ,upon reflection I think he is! No motivation and his sending off was needless and as Captain he should have known better, but the Burton players did over exagerate when they were challenged in the tackle! I would get rid of Loft as hes more of a liability than a leader on the pitch, maybe its Nelsons time to be Captain he led by example with his superb performance today!
We have lacked a experienced decent leader all season and now the chickens have come home to roost,no mental toughness in three top of the table clashes we have lost,Walsall;Coventry and shockingly home to Burton!
On todays performance a slide to mid table obscurity looks likely!

This is not the first time that Doug loft has got himself sent off stupidly, I remember under peter Taylor he got himself sent off and cost us the game. I do agree, he should be leading by example, instead he moans and bit too much for my liking to be captain, overall loft has been a disappointment, I much rather Houghton in midfield, why was he not even on the bench .
Looks like Burton played the conditions better than us, I just hope we can bounce back next week.

The referee and his assistants were sick jokes but the ref got the Loft situations spot on. As captain and a senior professional within a very young team he should be leading by example and giving guidance to the young players when things are going wrong. He should be fined and deprived of the armband. Ultimately it might be better to offload him as he has been a disappointment since he came from Port Vale. I think it is better to have an outfield player as captain much as I admire Nelson so I reckon it should be Egan. However I would much prefer to have Ehmer playing along side him as they complement each other. To give 5 bookings to Gills players and only one to Burton was pathetic. Two or three of the Burton players should have been book for simulation let alone foul play. The conditions were awful but I think we have the right players to overcome such problems but it definitely needs a return to the high tempo closing down of the opposition in their half of the field which Gills were so good at earlier in the season and a return of confidence. Let's hope they take up the challenge at Millwall and reward the supporters who understood they had tried very hard yesterday and waited to applaud them at the end.

Nice one stato and agree with a lot of that. We need to really get together for next week which will be a feisty affair. No natural captain in the squad and agree technical, every time egan gets the armband his form dips. Since returning oshilaja had been awful, why is ehmer not getting a look in? As to next week, please gills step it up, I cant go away again and see another stuffing. My prediction is millwall 5 - gills 0, purely based on this weeks guess when I put us down for a 3-1 win.
