Excellent start always good to kick off the season with a win. Gives the players confidence. Looking forward to next Saturday so I can see how the team shapes up.

So, we won 2-0, played well in the first half but let it slip a bit in the second half. Accrington didn’t seem to be a team on form or with momentum. As for the “bargain basement” signings? Personally I think Parrott did well, Charles-Cook played out of his skin, and I think he may have got 2 assists, and Hanlon scored our first goal on his debut. It’s a good start, but we should be careful not to get carried away. Accrington were poor and I think based on our second half performance a better team could have punished us. Still, it’s better than getting poked in the eye with a stick. 4-0 loss to Accrington “realistic” my spotty hoop. Oh and it might be the only time this season, but we are currently second. I really hope you enjoyed today . I did, despite the early start the journey was ok, had a drink in a decent pub before kick off and a good burger. During the first half you could really see the improvements over last season. We were moving the ball about better, players looked confident and we were getting the ball into dangerous areas and putting good crosses, which paid off, twice. Communication didn’t seem great, there were a few occasions where two players would go to the same ball, or some one would leave the ball or back heel it to a team mate who wasn’t there. The defence also seemed a bit shakey at times, Elmer had to make a goal line clearance in the first half. The second half Accrington had is under the kosh a few times, and we did seem to panick a bit with players making some questionable decisions, including Holy. Accrington were poor, but, I felt that neither of our goals were “lucky”. They were well worked and the result of good football.

Well Manc and others, 4-0 prediction, Lenny has outlined a few things, I will add that we were poor last week when we finally faced League opposition (1 League lower) and got tonked 5-1. I didn't think that was a blip, it may well have been. It's also worth remembering that we had some away form last year which dried up and our home form was terrible, so we need to see how all that pans out.
Nevertheless today we won 0-2 and I'm absolutely delighted to be wrong, listen to Lenny, being cautious doesn't make you less of a fan. I'm not one for keeping positive when we lose every week, nor will I be. 0-4 was realistic to me or I wouldn't have said it and what's more I don't NECESSARILY have to back it up, if I think we'll lose 0-4 then I think we'll lose 0-4 and I'm entitled to say it. Very rarely will anyone who knows anything about Football make a prediction with no thought behind it, so stop insulting people by implying that that's what they've done. In some ways it's none of your business how they came to their decision.
This time though, I'm wrong and once again I say how delighted I am to be! Please get a grip and stop being so sensitive.

Hey, if you can’t or won’t explain why you thought we’d ship 4 goals in the first game of the season that’s fine, but don’t be surprised when people ask you why you think that.

Fantastic result, Accrington may have been poor, and max may have done a goal line clearence, but other than that Accrington did not have a shot on target, according to reports, so we done our job, and a debutant scoring and another assisting, good job Gills.

To be fair I thought there might have been another goal line clearance in the second half, but play was down the other end of the pitch.

Thank you Gills for a smile on my face after the opening game of the season! We are (Joint) top of the league!

Whilst it's true that we were penned in a little in the second half, I think we were happy to sit back and defend, as Accrington never really looked like scoring. Had we needed to come out and attack, I think we'd have seen a different Gills in the second half. A promising start with some good football when we moved it around against, albeit, poor opposition. How poor we'll find out in the coming weeks.

Manc, why is it you always want to prove a point, there doesn't have to be an explanation for everything, some things are just gut, other thoughts are based on what's gone by. Lenny has already given you reasons, I've given you another. I have several inc. some of Lenny's. If you think hard enough you, yourself would come up with reasons why we would lose 4-0 today! It could go either way. Frankly, I have other things in my life besides time on here. I thought we would lose 4-0, if you want to know why, I can tell you or just leave you to whistle. That's up to me. From your point of view just accept what I say as my opinion, you can ask and I can tell you what I want to tell you, it doesn't prove I'm right or wrong, and leave it there and don't try proving your point by saying silly things on other posts. Today, I was wrong, I could have been right, I'd rather be wrong, another time I will be right. I don't care as long as we win. Get on with your life.

Delighted to be wrong, great result. Fully endorse donuts comments. Long way to go and probably playing one of the poorest sides but a win is a win.

People need to make their minds up, yesterday and this morning they were going to thrash us 4-0 now they’re one of the poorest sides in the league.
The bargain basement signings (the three who played at least) proved that Steve Lovell actually might know what he’s doing.

That’s you that is, having a big old cry because someone has the temerity to challenge your opinion. If you don’t like it I suggest you avoid posting on public discussion forums. Anyway we’ll be losing 35-0 next Saturday and our relegation will be confirmed by the end of September and Paul Scally will no doubt be to blame if it snows at Christmas and your presents don’t turn up.

You are challenging me having an opinion, you don't like my opinion or me having one. I don't mind you having one, I didn't go off the end at those who thought we'd win, that's up to them, they have their reasons, perhaps they're just being hopeful. Whatever, stop looking for argument! As far as the season goes, well that's a long way away. I'm not sure if Lovell knows what he's doing, we'll see. If Lenny has realized that Accrington were poor, that's ok, he's changed his mind, he's allowed. I personally thought they were better than that but the season will show it. Today we won and I'd like to be allowed to enjoy it.

It’s not even like we were especially poor defensively last season, we weren’t, we just struggled to score goals, which is why we ended up with a relatively good goal difference compared to the teams around us, we drew a lot of games, or lost by a narrow margin (Southend is obviously an exception to that). It’s annoying because it seems that whenever I come on here all I see is negative comments, some warranted, some not.
