Yes, a fantastic result Gills, which was also the result of the day, and highlighted on the national news.
It’s not that often that Gillingham or the Medway Towns in general get a favourable mention on the news, but the Gills certainly did that for the area yesterday.
How shortsightedness of Medway Council, and Kent County Council for that matter, not to give more support to the only Football League side in the County. Medway Coucil are advertised on the front of the shirts on every nation newspapers today. MEMS must be heart broken after supporting the club for the last few seasons without any similar coverage. Medway Council should be over the moon with the coverage given to this one match. It goes to show that given more support to the club and not the continuous stumbling over new stadium plans and complaining about sponsorship deals to promote the club, could and should benefit the area. Especially now, with the riches involved in professional football, with the size of the Medway Towns it should be benefitting from a more vibrant and progressive council towards sport. If the area wants to be on the national news in future for the right reasons, maybe one of the Councils priorities should be to get behind, the football club and promote sport in general.

Greyfox I agree with your general point and ever since I can remember Medway Council has been blamed for this. However I have a deep feeling that there is more to it and I can't help thinking that Scally is, how can I say it, part of the problem. I have no proof at all, just a feeling.

You’re quite right, donut. No evidence that the council have been anything other than helpful to the club in its search for a new ground. I’m pretty sure they’ve put their hands in their pockets for feasibility studies etc and seen no return back on that money

It won't be in the council's interests to block the building of a new stadium without a good reason.
A new stadium would be good for the local economy, construction would create plenty of jobs, as would any associated trading estates, casinos etc

The evidence, i.e nothing doing, is there for all to see, so what is their 'good reason' I wonder?

You don't need evidence to see that local and Kent County Council have not supported first class sport in Kent for generations. I remember this discussion in the sixties and all the decades since. There is not one stadium in Kent worthy of the name, be it football, cricket, rugby or athletics. Pathetic for the second largest county in England. Just look how quickly MK Dons have optained a forty thousand seat stadium or The Rose bowl (I know it's changed it's name) for cricket. Go and have a look at all the new stadiums being built throughout football in general. And ask yourself is enough being done to encourage investment. It's not only about Gillingham, Maidstone, Ebbsfleet etc, it's about progress in first class sport in general.

You're probably right Greyfox but Kent is the 10th largest County by area and ninth by population I believe.
