Gills were dreadful, absolutely no quality on the ball throughout the 90+ minutes, and beaten by a splendid 25 yarder from Rover's Clarke-Harris that even if he tried another 100 times it is doubtful that he could replicate that goal. Gills had 2 shots on target and had plenty of huff and puff but couldn't beat a really poor, and in the end, lucky Rovers.
Playing Oldaker was a mistake, or leaving him on the pitch for so long probably was the error. He didn't get going and Charles-Cook was also ineffective but Lovell kept them going too long. Eaves and Hanlan tried hard but no skill on the ball when it would have counted. Defence played well although Rovers didn't provide much of a threat to be honest.
This was a match that Gills should have achieved at least a point but one moment of sheer Rover's luck might cost them dear come May. Apparently Gills haven't won at Priestfield on a Tuesday night since 2015 - on this showing it might take another four years.

Agree, iblue. That was dire. I’d argue changing the midfield was the mistake. Reilly, Charles-Cook and Oldaker were all awful. Only 2 subs again and a striker left on the bench in a game where we didn’t have a meaningful shot on target. We sign 5 loan players, play none and one comes off the bench. Couldn’t make it up. Can’t say I enjoyed it at all tonight. Really cold and a miserable performance. I’m not sure I can take another season of the quality of football we play these days. Something has to change

Absolute horseshite. Took a mate, embarrassing. Don’t know what to say. I think watching Whitstable Town would of been more entertaining. Does football get any worse than this? Honestly does it?

Terrible game, terrible result. Home form, one step forward, two steps backwards. That’s the story of this season in a nutshell.
Lovell changed the midfield due to the players on Saturday looking tired. You couldn’t make it up.
Having to admit that to the press when supporters are staying away in droves is embarrassing.

Spot on I-blue. Thought our defence was ok again and fuller the deserved MOM. Although they created little. Oldaker looked well and truly out of his depth and should have gone off at half time. If he had we wouldn’t have conceded as the goal was his fault as he didn’t jockey and got the wrong side of the player allowing him to run and shoot. Back to a poor formation/balance and shows where we would be without the recent loan signings. As you say, subs wrong and too late, they were like for like as no change was made to the style of play. Expecting a hammering Saturday, so SL needs to get them back on it Saturday week.

Briefly . Poor game Poor performance we only got a little better when we went behind Poor selection . Sorry DJ not a holding midfielder his mistake let the player in by being on the wrong side and he scores a fantastic goal. Poor quality . Awful passing, awful first touch and awful decision making Poor set piece play Poor referee and linos they missed almost everything
Only positive a win and a loss better than two draws , but that is really clutching at straws.
Motm - fuller yes and Byrne deserves mention again

Absolutely clueless, both sides made me wonder if I was watching a game of professional football. Saturday will be interesting but week after against Wimbledon is a game the Gills cannot afford to lose.
Hope the Gills can get over the line soon and then the chairman can decide what to do with the club, if it's more of the same sell up please.

A huge waste of time going last night, we started off quite brightly but couldn't keep it going for long.
Just back to the same old hoof ball

Well said Bernie, I think that’s what most supporters are thinking. The club is stagnating under the present set up. As you say, if it’s going to be more of the same next season, ticket sales will keep falling and so will the negativity surrounding the club.

There has been some absolutely appalling performances this season, but I think that's the worst we've played. Dire opposition as well.

I wonder what percentage time of the game the ball was up in the air? OK, the conditions were not good, swirling wind, and the pitch must have been heavy after all the rain in the afternoon, but I thought on the few occasions Gills did get the ball down, and played to feet, thelooked much more dangerous. However it wasn't often enough, thus the dispiriting result.

Received an email from the club inviting me to watch the highlights.
I'll give it a miss, i don't want to be reminded of the crap I sat through.

Originally this could have been due to a poor playing surface, but after spending £500k on a new pitch and improved drainage that issue should have been resolved. To me it seems that a lot of the hoof ball comes from the defence not having faith in the midfield, the midfield struggle to gain or keep possession so Holy and the defence decide to skip them and boot it straight up the field.

Manc, I think it’s more likely those tactics come from the management. Lovell is old school as a coach and manager. Hoof ball appears to be his tactics. I don’t honestly believe he spends all week on the training ground playing tiki taka and then the players come out on match day and start thumping it long
