Call me cynical, but a few weeks ago the chairman said the budget this season was the same as last year. Are we to suppose that Steve Evans and Paul Raynor have the same wages between them that Steve Lovell had? We have so far signed 4 players. The goal keeper seems to be one of the better ones in this division,so surely he is on more money than Holy was,who was virtually unknown when we signed him,so probably wasn't on that much in comparison. Other players have come in from higher clubs so I would expect them to be on reasonable money as well, and that's before we sign any strikers who are usually the highest earners. Did Steve Lovell not spend all the budget he had,or has some investment come in that we don't know about? I'm not complaining because I want to see a competitive team, but you can't help wondering where Uncle Paul has found the wonga as he said no more money for Evans than Lovell had.

I don't think the chairman trusted Lovell completely and I am sure 99% of Gillingham fans agree too.
I did not see us moving forward with him at the helm.
Would you trust a manager who loses 12 games at home and regularly highlights players mistakes in the media ??
LOVELL WAS AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME !!!

I’ve never believed that some of the players were as cheap as people liked to make out. I just think Lovell spent it poorly

It's hard to say as we'll probably never know the details of any if the contracts.
So far in the last 2 weeks I think Evans and by extension Scally have made a clear statement of intent for the season ahead.
I am not expecting promotion, but I think we will be looking at getting to the playoffs, or just outside them.
Providing Evans can do the business on the pitch.

Yes and I remember stating alongside Swans that this could all happen and all we got was negativity, we don't have the money for Evans, we don't have the money to compete, we don't have he budget for better players. I always knew uncle Paul would produce money from somewhere and am surprised people on here thought anything else.

Evans has not come here to make us a mid table side. He will be expecting us to make the play-offs as a bear minimum.
Its been a while since we can really believe that the club is showing some serious intent and the signing certainly look decent enough and most importantly we have a manager who can trust.
Those who doubted Evans will be eating humble pie for sure..donut...lol.

donut..i think we are going to have a proper football side under Evans.
Another season with Lovell was unthinkable.

Everyone seems to forget that this season there is a new sponsorship deal compared to last season. So add that to the equation as well and it changes things.

Our cup-run has given us money that was not available last season.
