Yes the bookies agree with me, 16 to 1 for champions and 7 to 2 for promotion. I won’t bet, those odds are not good enough and I don’t think we ll be champions.

Betting at this stage is a fools errand, nobody is even close to finalising their squad yet.

Gills should be around the 20-1 to 25-1 odds for the title.
We do not even have a goalkeeper for pre-season training.
NH trying to philosophical about his transfer dealings and the inability to attract option 1 or option 2 targets is already clear for us to see.
When a manager waffles on and on in detail, its a clear sign of frustration even though his making out he is composed.
Bring in Harvey Lim out of retirement.

I see more than a hint of resentment in the way GFC fans talk about other teams recusitment processes. No criticism intended but the phrase 'throwing money at...' often crops up. It is just possible that some owners/investors have a more optimistic and ambitious plan than we do.

As it stands, we’re obviously in the brown stuff. No keeper, no striker, no right back, no cover at centre back, no wingers. Based on the current squad, we’re relegation fodder. I can’t honestly believe though, even in the shiteshow that is Gillingham fc, we won’t have filled most of those positions come the end of July. If our keeper is Dahlberg, for example, I’ll be suicidal. If we managed to get Jamal Blackman (for example - ex Chelsea released by Huddersfield), I’d be positive. In the same way, we’ve been linked with some decent (on paper) strikers. Get 2 of those and things look good. I think Alfie May is out of contract, for example. Imagine the positivity if we got him( very unlikely). So, no. Nobody has a clue where we’ll be now or how to bet. It’s fair to say, though, it’s going as poorly as any of us could have imagined at this stage.

It’s not good betting but at 25/1 with coral and Ladbrooks today I will have a bet, why ? Because they are decent odds, in my opinion we have one of the best 3 managers, we have just come down on goal difference, and we are GFC. Enough said

Part of thinking will be that Harris is good enough not to choose people like Dahlberg etc. and that’s why you come to a decision and make a bet. I didn’t think the odds were that good, so I won’t bet, I think the bookies feel we may get promoted. No one knows for sure of course, that’s what betting is all about!

Impossible to say where we'll finish with not enough players to put a match day squad out, so the coming signings are vital. We could get a terrible keeper and a bunch of average players to fill the outfield positions then we'd all be sweating. But there are some decent players out there on frees and if Harris gets the keeper right, a striker who can score then a few hard working players in midfield and defence with a bit of physicality to them then I think we'll do okay. A few loans will help, hopefully the mistakes of previous managers will be avoided of signing any young lad from a decent team and hoping they'll be ready. Rather than Premier League loans, maybe we should be looking at Championship and top League One clubs for players with a little experience already, or even out of favour slightly older players - but I guess they cost more than unproven Prem kids.
Until we've got at least another five players through the door though you'd have to be mystic meg to make an informed guess. I'm hopeful, Harris is one of the best managers we've had for a long time, it's just a shame he's come at a point when the club is facing it's biggest challenge for a long time too.

It's all gone quiet on the player front. By the time NH has enquired about signing a few players the best of the crop will have already gone and signed for ambitious, progress clubs with decent budgets. If Dahlberg was to come back here, it would not surprise me one bit. Decent keepers will not really join a club going nowhere fast like ours. Evans who brought in Jamie Cummings was easily the best young keeper the club has had for many many years. I think he was better that Steve Banks or Jason Brown. Our club have very muchlowered its standards to the point that Evans and now Harris have come out lambasting the pitiful structure within the club and this has happened due to Scally self-righteoness and stubborn justification to line his own pockets and those gullible idiots who support him are having their pants pulled down, well and truly. Pull your pants back up !!! You know who you are Lol I am sure Scrooge will ask Steve Lovell once more to come in to plug a gap up top with Iffy Onuora. I am sure there will not be any players signing 3 year contracts and most deals will be loans, rough diamonds, characters, players with a point to prove, old heads and injury prone guys. This is the kind of market that realistically the club can access due to such a small budget. Evans was working with both hands tighted behind his back in that 3rd season and NH is already feeling the pinch when he tries to convinces players to meet him at the club, because he knows many will not attend a meet with him. Kent's Number One Salesman...has not proved his networking skills and contacts within the game are certainly lacking at the moment. There is nothing to get excited about this season, we going down the route of being very much like Southend Utd in terms of finances.

Hmmm. The man who won't put any money into the club is complaining about a lack of finances to sign quality players. More lols

Yes, I see the apparent irony in there but unfortunately the fundamental criticism Swans makes holds good. It appears that little or nothing has changed in terms of the owner's ambition. We are left with blind faith in NH's ability to get what will likely be an average bunch of players to punch above their weight .
Ten games in and we should know for sure.

We are incredibly lucky our owner hasn’t put prices up seems to be Scallys only contribution.

Lenny....in real terms the price should have come down because we are playing in a lower standard of professional football.
That is why apart from NH's enthusiasm to change the circus culture that existed at the club.
I am sure he will not be here long enough to implement a complete overhaul of the structure of this pitiful club under Scally.
He does not think he is a league 2 manager in his own eyes.
You can sense it in his interviews that last season, under his guidance the club should have stayed up.

Actually, let’s look at why the budget isn’t keeping up with expectation.
Here’s some selected average attendances: 00/01 9293 04/05 8528 07/08 6077 10/11 5232 12/13 6601 15/16 6361 18/19 4880 21/22 5167
So, if you have declining attendances, you aren’t going to get more money for transfers are you? If we cut prices, there is zero evidence it encourages more fans, but cuts revenue (indeed cheaper prices have been tried).
The only way we get better is if people spend their money. Idiots like swans (and there are plenty more) want to bitch about the club without putting their hand in their pocket and making it worse
