I'm not convinced that this will make a huge difference at the club,. Firstly, Scally is not going anywhere - in fact one interpretation could be that he will simply do less for the same out-take. As for him being 'bullied out' I don't think fans voicing their legitimate concerns is bullying , so that leaves the alleged 'abusers' at fault. this has always struck me as being somewhat over-egged by Scally, particularly in the context of a football ground, where officials and players are subject to far worse treatment every day of their working lives. I don't defend it, I think it's deplorable, but fans claiming to be upset and outraged by it ? I don't think anyone who regularly attends football matches is that sensitive. Also, Mr S doesn't seem the type to be bullied, if anything I'd say his track record suggests he is more likely to be the instigator rather than the receiver. The new guy is not taking over the Chairmanship he is sharing it, nor is there any suggestion that he is investing in GFC, so what we're seeing is a change in management, not in control. I don't expect to see any significant shift in approach to the budget, in terms of investment or in the prioritisation of the footballing side of the business. It may well be that Scally has decided to concentrate on the other areas of his business where, no doubt , his teaching staff don't shout "Scally out" when he enters the school. I 'm reserving judgement but my first reaction is 'so what ? ' I agree it’s not going to make much difference he just won’t be involved in the day to day running of the club. Paul Fisher is a Gillingham fan and has an impressive CV, and seems to be highly thought of by people who have worked with him at the Jockey Club, he could be the sort of person the club needs, but only time will tell. As for the bullying, it’s hard to say without having the full picture, but having seen the way some people behave on line, and the filth that they come out with at away games I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he has had people at his house and leaving abusive phone calls etc. There are elements of the SOB who certainly seem to have a personal vendetta against him, and their behaviour extends far beyond what would be reasonable if they were only interested in what’s best for the club.

This is a genuine question...what do you think Fisher will actually do and be responsible for ? His primary professional skill appears to be accountancy so at least we should get the accounts filed on time but I am struggling to see just what major contribution he will make, unless there are significant cost savings to be made and operating efficiencies to be improved.
Like all new signings, however, let's give the guy a welcome.

Like all new signings, however, let's give the guy a welcome. Well he is the co-chairman and CEO so he will be responsible for all day to day club issues, though Scally will still control the purse strings. He, Fisher, has been COO and CEO at a number of race courses before become the MD of the Jockey Club. He apparently oversaw renovations etc at places like Cheltenham so he might have a better eye for what equates to a good match day experience, which could help to get more bums on seats, thus improving the clubs income. There will also be the events, school, factory, and apparently also a day nursery. I suspect that there will be savings to be made, as I doubt the things at the club are streamlined (anyone who has stood inline at one of the food kiosks willl know this). As you say, he needs to be given a chance, it could be good for us, or it might not.

Read exactly the same, manc. He hugely increased revenue at the jockey club by focusing on the match day experience. If he can bring those ideas to the club and use his expertise to increase revenue, that will help the club.
It might not work, but anyone just thinking Scally will walk away and write off the income he receives from the club is just thick. It’s his asset and he owns it. I think missinglinc hit the nail on the head in it being the best solution as it stands.

I think as ever, donut, Scally is best to not do interviews. Awful about his mate, but I’m not sure that playing the victim helps him.

I entirely agree - it is completely irrelevant to his decision to 'step back' and just looks like a piece of gratuitous self-congratulation.

Scally cannot be trusted and the Gills fans know how shallow he is.

Ah, swans is back. Must have been gutted about Tuesday's nights win given how quiet he's been. With Scally moving away, he's literally got nothing to say.

Old Gordon Lightfoot song, Baby Step Back, baby step back either step up or step back, replace Scally with Baby.

I spoke to a few people in the know in professional football circles.
They tell me Paul Fisher is just a front for our chairman. He knows that if he remained at the club he would further damage the already fragile and slim support he had behind him.
He knows a majority of fans dispise him and that his relationship with the fans has always been very confrontational and frosty.
His only hope is Paul Fisher does a good job and helps him sell the club to proper and decent people.
The deceit about being tired and ill is just his way of slipping out the back door quietly and leaving the door ajar if the club's fortunes turn for the better.
The chairman craves control and wants to be the puppetmaster from abroad.
He knows it's much better for all concerned that he does not show his poker face anywhere near the club.
The wrath and resentment to him is fever pitch.
Playing the sympathy and victim card does not work because we all know how antagonistic he is towards those who disagree with him.
I doubt he could even sell a photocopier at the moment with the BS comes out with.
We hope you never return to Medway Towns again !!!
