Am I missing something, I buy a broke company ,lets call in Gillingham FC for a quid,I pay off all the outstanding debts and I run it for lets say 20 years, as a basically sole owner. I pay myself what ever I think I am worth and the other directors what I think there worth .Now after 20 years I decide I wish to sell my business but I wish to keep a share of it,lets say 25%, nothing unusual about that.Along comes a rich man who for some unknown reasons wants to own an English football Club without having to pay 600 million pounds for a Premier League Club, He knows sweet sod all about running a football club so he says to me if you stay on and advise me ,I will give/sell you 25% of the club which you saved from going under and I will pay you XYandZ for X number of years.After that you will remain a minority shareholder until you either die or decide to sell me your shares at an agreed price.
