Got to say I had a excellent view from the Brian Moore stand for tonights match thankfully the rain abated but am I right in stating that it was like a preseason friendly other than young Bradley. who really stood out on either side!
No real urgency unlike the last Newcastle v Gills match back in 76 that I recall, all cup matches meant something back then! The premier league has taken the glamour out of cup football in England sadly!

Completely agree with you terry Newcastle never had to get out of first gear I was watching it thinking that was like a training session for them we never got in their faces and never put pressure on them. Yes it was a unbelievably strong Newcastle side but we lacked that little bit of fight. Dack and Hessy were our best players and it was nice seeing Cody back playing so soon after his injury. My worry was watching Pritchard I understand he is not 100% fit but he was bottling out of tackles which shows no passion and he will lose every 50/50 if he keeps doing that. Let's get back to the league on Saturday and get that much needed 3 points.

The gills never really looked like beating Newcastle . My friend called me after the game and said it was a waste of money going to the game and many of the players could not raise their game for a cup game like Newcastle. I think we have a ok squad but players like German, Norris , Pritchard and hause are no better than league two at best and sadly making up the numbers.
Hey, bring on Saturday .

Were Newcastle there for the taking ? Or where the toon playing within themselves ? Lots of unhappy fans because we played too much hoof ball to keds who I don't rate anyway.

Newcastle were there for the taking in my opinion. Hard to criticise when playing a premiership team too much, but our ball retention is poor and we lacked creativity or an enforcer in the middle of the park. Our 5-3-2 didn't help with Newcastle simply doubling up on our fullbacks. Fish especially had a torrid night

Fish had a really bad day at the office I am surprised he was allowed to continue for the full 90 mins.

I can't agree I was very proud of the lads. The Newcastle side cost close to 50 million pounds.Sure Taylor's team did defend in depth at time and there were a few too many crosses at times. But over all given that Taylor had to play a few squad players I felt we did really well.As for comments about Norris(he show a lot of promise.) I felt he and German gave the Toon something to think about and could have got the equalizer on another day.Dack and Hess held the midfield for periods in the game and made a few half chances. It should also be remembered that Hause and Davies played in strange rolls at left back and left sided of 3 centre back. Pritchard and Cody had just returned from injury. We are without Nelson, Loft,Martin and McGlashan is clearly not 100% fit as yet.
Whatever The others say I felt deep pride that a Gillingham team who are really young and for the most part have never played in a game like that one before did so well. For me even with the result I went to work after proud of the teams efforts.

The bit that really annoyed me was we were 0-1 down and offering no threat going forward as Taylor played 5 defenders at the back. 4 central defenders and a fish that was out of water. Why oh why did he not switch fish and Hause for mcglashan and Hoyle both of whom offer something more going forward. At one point I was wondering if PS had a bet on a correct score :-(. I would rather we tried and failed than just lay down and die.
On the positive side Hess Mk2 and Dack were very good along with the Egan who is looking currently as the best if the recent signings by a long way.
Roll on Saturday.

Having read all the above I was also proud of the way the lads conducted themselves. It was a clean game and they were without a doubt up against a professional team who had some class players. For the younger lads this must have been quite daunting. It was good to see a full stadium apart from some vacant seats on the top Medway stand. Are they only sold to certain people? Thought the ref was fine and I was pleased to be there. I don't think the lads disgraced themselves in any way and some of the passing was better than in seem in recent games. I picked Dack out as MOM quite early on he was outstanding.

We will never no if Newcastle were there for the taking as they was never under pressure what so ever, they knew they had the game won at 1-0. Pritchard will get fitter but if he is gonna bottle out of tackles like he did last night then it's not a good start. I was very proud to be a gills fan shame we didn't take the game to Newcastle.

100% agree stato, whilst not a great Newcastle side we done well against premiership opposition. I came away happy from the game as I felt all the team, bar one had good games. I didn't expect we would get many chances, but we had a few and the effort put in chasing had to be admired, I expect that from them all each week now. As above I have grave concerns about fish, who I thought was awful as did all around me. Sorry matt, the injury has finished you and pt needs to get Hoyte signed permanently ASAP.

I keep willing players not to pass to Fishy just about every ball either went out or was directed towards a Newcastle players. Can't have such weakness in that position.

Only thing I will say about fishy is that he is currently playing in a new set up and down on fitness , match practice and I guess confidence . He reminds me of the Matt in his first season and I thought then he was rubbish . The nest season he proved me wrong and was a greatly improved player . I hope he gets to recover that form and that he proves all his doubters wrong a second time, but for now hang in there

I was quite happy with last nights performance against a strong Newcastle side. NU were half a yard quicker than us which stopped us passing it around so we did end up hoofing if a bit only to to get it straight back. Kedwell and Cody where ineffective as they kept getting pulled back for defensive duties, this changed on the hour mark when Norris and German came on as they added some pass up front. PT got the tactics spot on but we did get pulled deep and bit much and I thought PT was going to blow a gasket at one time getting them to go forward.
Lots of respect from the Newcastle fans over the 17th minutes applause
All in all a respectable result against a premiership team desperate for goals and against a manger who wanted a goal-fest
