We all know how football works. Scally is interested in Edinburgh. Scally approaches Edinburgh or possibly his agent to sound him out and discuss the job, terms of contract etc. Edinburgh says "no", and no approach to Newport is made. Edinburgh agrees and then we approach Newport and agree compensation. If Edinburgh is Scally's first choice, it'll take a while and cost Scally a few quid There lies the problem, is PS willing to pay up for the remainder of his 2 years on the contract, as previously stated many times there is no money for signing players, it may happen, but surely it is more likely to be an out of work manager with experience of working with younger players, and on a tight budget.

I don't think any of us know how much is in the budget.I emailed the club earlier this month in response to Scally's idea that he would like supporters suggestions, and I said then that I think the club should pay as much as they can to secure a new manager (I suggested Edinburgh)and rely on him to get which players in that he can,if theres money left over ,or loans, at least until the end of the season, when the new man will have an idea of which players he wants and those he doesn't,which of course will depend on which division we're in. I've said before, that some years ago,Swindon had a blueprint of getting the best they could afford, and they got Lou Macari who took them up through the divisions until financial problems brought them down again.

According to South Wales press he has told them today he was tempted by the speculation but will show loyalty to Newport and have talks with them about contract extension.

Although the headline says "signed" the article (and the one on the BBC) is careful to say "agreed". Not quite the same thing and possibly something Edinburgh could/would use to get a better deal from Scally?
I can't really see it being him though. I don't think he stands out enough from other "OK" candidates where we won't have to pay off their exisiting clubs.

What's the bet that Edinburgh was never interested but was using the speculation to get a payrise?

How about this then. Sky bet have moved him from 11\4 this morning to 1/3 on. Now surely no gills supporter 2ould have put money on Edinburgh after seeing he had supposedly signed a new contract. But someone must have lumped a lot on to shorten the odds so dramatically.

Just how much money is changing hands over this appointment? I guess it's a whole other world, but it astounds me that more than a handful are interested.

But I still don't understand it. At odds on its not likely to induce anyone to put money on unless its a big gambler who knows more than we do

You could be right technical, perhaps put that news out (said agreed contract, but didn't confirmed signed) to give the chairman there time to find a new manager and see the good ship Newport returns to winning ways and then when a new manager is found let Edinburgh go! Sorry in desperate need of a conspiracy film to come on TV!

If we win against Oldham today, I can see the odds shortening on the Four Amigos keeping the job for a while. Obviously not a long-term strategy but if it reduces any compensation we need to pay out, I can see the idea of keeping them on until the end of the season becoming an increasingly popular one in PS's eyes.
