the dover chairman who seems to have an awfully high opinion of himself said on radio kent this morning "over my dead body" when asked if birchall will join gillingham,.
he said they have a gentleman's agreement outside of birchall's contract that if a league club comes along, providing the offer is sensible, that he will let him go. unless that is us, it seems. so his sour grapes and contempt for us could in fact hold the player back from furthering his career.
at the end of the day, his manager left to go back to full time management. it happens. we asked for permission to talk to hess, parmenter denied it until a fee had been agreed. normally permission is given, and if the manager then wants to leave you THEN sort a fee. so hess simply resigned. said manager then took his back room staff with him. also happens, and is pretty much the norm. so as far as that goes, he has no grounds for complaint. it is how things are done and how they happen in football, if he cannot accept it then maybe he would be better off out of it. he obviously sees his club in some kind of 'real madrid' status. as far as hendon goes, hendon himself broke a gentleman's agreement, but equally parmenter should not of announced him BEFORE he signed his contract - until it is signed, you have nothing. so that was equally down to him as hendon. and to be honest, i think dover were better off for it and did very well under martin hayes. they would not of had as good a season under hendon.
now fish and flitney have jumped ship for gills - free agents choosing to move on. how often have our players done that! it happens. so all this bad blood between the clubs is quite frankly embarrasing for both parties.
parmenter needs to grow up and not make such childish comments on the radio!
as far as birchall goes -he would be a punt and parmenter needs to get real - £250k is laughable - maybe then years ago but in this economic climate he is worth £50k tops.
