Well, what a farce. We have a player saying he's prepared to consider rejoining us and wants to speak to the club. That player is a bit of a Gills hero, a full international and a guy who's played in the Premier League. He's coming to his peak at 29 and if signed would be comfortably the best keeper in league 2. We don't know if he's affordable or not, because we haven't spoken to him.
Our manager then is quoted as saying he's disrespected the club by saying coming to Gills would be stepping down a level (the temerity to suggest Blackburn are a bigger club - honestly!) and we have no interest in bringing him to the club. Of course it's far better to look at a player released by Barnet as competition from Flitney than Jason Brown.
What's made me even more cross about this sorry state of affairs is that a very drunk Lawrence at POTY stood up and said he'd come from "bigger and better things." Now we all found that funny, but how is that any better than what Jason has said on Twitter?
Maybe Hess should be honest about the reasons for not wanting Brown, be they financial or otherwise rather than insulting fans with such garbage. Rant over!

Can only agree with you wholeheartedly. Now that Danny Jackman has been released he might have to go to a Blue Square club and this will be " stepping down " in order to get a game of football, if he joins a team in League 1 then he will step up. Why shoot your foot off in saying that he has disrespected the club by saying he is stepping down. It is the truth!!! Get over it Hessie and sign the BEST PLAYERS and Brown is in that category.

I'd agree with the sentimetns about Brown being a 'fantastic sigining', but Hess has got himself into a situation:
Gets rid of 2 keeper and states we are signing only one and Darren Hawkes is to be the understudy.
He signs Ross Flitneyy, bravely (for acurrent non-league keeper t be given that amnount of responsibility, especially in the light of the harsh comments received by previous No 1, ex non league keeper, Alan Julian) as the custodian who is going to play in all 49+ games this season. Hawkes is t p0plsit on the pivench in every game, ukess he can break into Flitney's place perhaps due to an injury, sending off or loss of form.
Meanwhile Jason Brown has started twitting, suggesting that he might be available, Perhaps Hess has got cold feet trusting these 2 too that extent but to now sign another keeper might be seen as underrmining both of the incumbents. Perhpas Brown's wage demands may bre beyongd the scope of the club. SO the 'irresponsible;' use of Twitter may be more to be the fact that Brown has unsettled Flitney and Hawkes rather than 'droppong down to a lower level' which is perhaps just twisting the knife a bit but only really stating the obvious (as in Flitney is moving up a level) I think this may be 'football bluster' aimed at putting Flitney's mind at rest , and suggesting to Brown that he's better be realistic with his wage demands.
Perhpas a way round this may have been to give Jason Brown a shor term contract, say 2 months or to Christmas, suggesting that he will be free to leave if a club comes in, meanwhile Flitnet has the opportunity to learn from an ex-Premiership keeper. -

Is Hess again demonstrating an ability to motivate tongue before engaging brain, sorry Hess but despite all you have done, and hopefully will do, for the Gills at times you worry me. Of course JB would be stepping down but unless there is a hidden agenda I think perhaps Hess may have put the kibosh on him stepping down this way.

There's more to this than meets the eye, I think massive wage demands and the unsettling nature of someone who believes he is considerably better than the rest of the team and bigger than the club would be detrimental. Hess is trying to build a team, not a JB supporters club. He's a legend, was great for us but i can see why he hasn't gone for it.

............. and ffs what has Hess got to do to make you lot happy! Look at what he is doing rather than what he isn't! I can hear you lot moaning the first time Flitney messes up, which he will do, as do all keepers. "he's shitee, non-league etc.... should have gone with Brown", back Hess and the team he's building and stop moaning at every opportunity, its boring.

What Hess has to do to keep us happy is pretty obvious, yes I do look at what he is doing and in my previous posting acknowledged that he has done things for the club and probably will do again. however I reserve the right to comment on things that I feel are not going in the correct direction, Hess's comments on JB twitter being one of them. Others of course have a right to there opinion and that I respect, its what makes this forum interesting. UTG

yes, every one has a right to express their opinions, even when they're wrong ;D
Just people have very short memories. Hess has made the right decision. Imagine the morale of the team Hess is trying to build when JB walks in the dressing room. "I'm only here for a season to single handedly get you lot up and then i'm off to bigger and better things", nice. Loads of resentment and completely at odds with what he's trying to achieve. Its a fine balance and whilst the jury will be out on Flitney for a while (and no doubt the boo boys will be on his back from day one as always), JB is not the answer.

I think you're confusing supporting the team and manager (which I do) with blindly agreeing with everything the club/manager does, which I don't. I'm delighted with the signings so far, think Hess did ok last season under difficult circumstances, but I think Hess messed up last season by not signing another striker and not bringing in a quality keeper. I hope the mistakes aren't mirrored this year. I'm sure flitney will do a better job than Julian, but brown is a class above and if available and within budget, should be signed. What annoyed me was Hess's excuse about twitter- be honest with the fans about why, don't cook up a load of nonsense as an excuse. I'll also be disappointed if birchall goes to Swindon as I think pdps playing games with Dover will be why we've missed out on him. I'll support the club and any player who plays for it, but we have equal right to criticise when we think mistakes have been made

The Dover chairmen said he would only go to Gillingham over his dead body, I think he may a be a liitle upset about us taking Hess and Hendon. Nothing to do with PS or any offers made, Birchall would have been a risk but a good risk and it may come back to haunt us BUT it was never on the cards he would come to us

So would Jason Brown not be taking a step down from premier league to div 2 then. I'm sure thats all he was saying!! He didn't say that the move was beneath him or that it was a move of convenience!! It sounded to me like he just wants to be playing football! Just a convenient excuse by the manager i'm afraid. Surely all it needed was we're not interested!

Agree with your sentiments northants, you have your thoughts and that is the crux of the matter as I am not so sure( as stated earlier)that Hess always does his thinking and then his talking in that order. This we saw last season with his comments about some of the players after they had had "a bad day at the office", Josh Gowling for one and on another occasion I think it was Kevin Maher, by all means remove their gonads but not in public statements immediately after the game
