Fair summing up IBLUE of a very poor game, too niggly, thought the referee was very lenient despite it only being a "friendly" I have concerns over our lack of fire power up front surely Hess has to get someone in loan to cover for Birchall, its obvious to a blind man that we can not rely on Oli and young Payne to replace Birchall for a possible 6 months absence, where was Payne yesterday? Where I was optimistic for the coming season with the new signings I worry now about our lack of strikers but thats always the case when you only have two out and out strikers and one gets injured.
Sort it out HESS

Thought the report a bit harsh, agreed strike force did not show up to well, but then neither did Millwall's, with the keepers at both ends having very little to contend with. However, defence and midfield showed up well, thought Frampton, Lawrence and Fish looked good, Jackman got in a good cross, all in all, thought Gills played better football in particular in the first half than has been seen from them of late. Considering its L2 v Championship thought it a reasonable showing. Obviously some areas to be given attention.

Very good summing up dc83. Thought the report was very harsh considering Milwall finished 9th in the championship. Yes we need to replace Birch, but ffs, he only got diagnosed a couple of days ago! Fans saying "sort it out Hess" before a ball has been kicked in anger are unbelievable..... What yesterday's game did show is optimism that the players brought in have added something. I thought Whelpdale's work rate was superb, Montrose looked very composed on the ball, Frampton looked top drawer, Fish very comfortable and Lee very Hess like (though he needs to calm down a touch!) I think Hess was trying to experiement with what he has and will then make a decision on replacing Birchall from that

He doesnt need time to asssess the situation ffs its blantetly obvious to any one who know feck all about football that Oli and Payne are not up to filling Birchalls boots. Si its unbelievable to express an opinion ffs Hess may be a god but you are a friggin self opinionated know it all
SORT IT OUT HESS

Anyone who knows anything about football knows that 4-4-2 isn't God these days. Hess was trying 4-3-3 first half with Keds as target man and Rooney and Whelps playing off him. Given there are goals in our midfield, that could well work. I for one think friendlies are about trying things, and can't understand fans who jump up and down because we didn't score against milwall. Goals haven't been a problem so far in pre-season

I think it was a credible performance against championship opposition, Milwalls "average defense" has now gone 4 games without conceding.

Felt we looked very solid lacked pace and that final ball.Reggie Lambe looked worth another look like to see him get wider. Not sure about the trailist keeper but he has a massive kick on him for a young lad.Need another forward for sure no doubt something will happen on that front this week.Rooney looked better playing further forward I feel he may make a bigger impact this season.Lee really took no prisoners he will have to take more care in league games.

Hessisgod I'm not sure about your comments about 442. I'm sure Sir Alex Ferguson knows something about football?! it does work if you got the right players.

markyh, did not interpret hessisgod as saying 4-4-2 does not work, rather thought the implication was that it is not the be all to end all.

Millwall used to be a local derby league game, I really hated my friends in the Bermondsey Mafia ringing me to let me know a big London club was coming to towm...aargh
To the game, I thought considering we were playing a side from two leagues above us ...we did fine
Like a number of you I do wonder where are goals are going to come from, but this was Kedwell (non league last year) up against good Championship defenders. To be honest he didn`t totally look out of place and in Div 2 will certainly be a handful. Oli as ever big, strong and fast...didn`t scare anyone...
On a really positive note both Whelpdale and Lee could play Div 1 in a heartbeat. Both a are fantastic signings and will rip Div 2 apart. I agree with `hessisgod` Lee will have to calm his enthusiasm down a touch...but we will love him in our team on a wet tuesday night in Feb when we are crying out for someone to put their foot in.
Frampton and Lawrence looked a ready made center back pairing...I don`t think many in Div 2 will look forward to playing against them. As to Frampton being Captain...why not, as talkers and leaders are hard to find, that and I`m not a huge fan of Fuller.
All of the above I exp[ected to be good and they are...the surprise to me is Montrose...he looks like he could be a top signing by Hess.
I am the biggest `sort it out Hess` merchant... lets be honest its his job, he is a top man who really cares. He may not be the best coach or the most experienced manager, but from the few times I `ve met him I know he`ll give his all. And on saturday he tried a couple of things out re our striking options...now he has to sort it out.
Aug 6th...drink your hearts out for the boys.
The CatMan...sort it out Hess

i think thats why Hess is looking to get a new coach in. He probably realises that he has limitations tactic wise, and he will then concentrate on more managerial things, whatever they may be.
