Ok, we start Saturday. Everyone knows our strengths (strength in depth and quality in defence and midfield), we all know about the concerns about where the goals will come from. What are people's predictions for final league position? I think the league is tougher than last year with some very good sides. Also a lot of unpredictability as most teams have totally revamped their squads. I'm going to plump for fifth, but us missing out in the play offs

my hope is champions but my expectations is somewhere between 8th and 5th. We have strengthened in certain areas but weakened in others. My expectations could change if we hear a top quality striker signs for a season loan but at the time of writing this hasn't happened. Our starting XI and a couple of others look good but after that it looks a bit thin. We will be between 8th and 5th biggest club....we will be between attendance wise and I believe that is where we will finish.... without a Crawley sugar daddy!!

I have a funny feeling this is going to be a promotion season just like a few years ago at Wembley!

i am quietly confident we can go up automatically, this time around we have a team of players who have character, this team looks like a strong unit and i confidently expect us to live up to expectation. mark my words promotion is a certainty in my eyes. last season hessie had to make do with the mahers, julian, gowling, nutter and co, who were passengers last season, i didn't have any believe those players were any good, i posted on this forum many times last season about these players and my judgement was vindicated, the players named have subsequently joined poorer sides. i know birchall is out for a while and we will miss him, i'm sure kedwell can do the lone striker role well, but we do need another man up there with him, oli and payne are not up to the required standard, if we don't get someone is immediately i don't think it will be a huge problem in the short term, because our midfield looks very strong indeed and i am sure they will score loads among them, montrose, whelpdale, weston and lee have at goals in them some of them i am sure can reach double figures this season. i am feeling really good about saturday, double it up with brighton home win over doncaster this saturday. just wanted to know how gills fans feel about my bet chances. 200 treble bet at betfred....have best prices on these teams. swansea stay in premiership ...11 / 8 west ham promotion... either through automatic or playoffs 11/ 8 gillngham promotion...either through automatic or playoffs 5 / 1 i know you have to wait until end of season, but if this cops it will pay you over £6,700, not bad for 200 bet, but you can bet smaller stakes, but i think is a decent bet. up the gills !!!!!

last season hessie had to make do with the mahers It was just as well Hess did have to put up with Maher!! He was easily the best midfielder and if Jack Payne hadn't of got injured and Hess was forced to play him we would have been lucky to finish mid-table!! i know birchall is out for a while and we will miss him, i'm sure kedwell can do the lone striker role well . I know Kedwell has just joined but I haven't seen any evidence that he can do this....he has,for me, looked very average at best in pre-season. Your bet looks good though

Hardly 'poorer'. You could also argue over Dagenham, seeing as they were just relegated and have a fantastic manager for this level. And while these players were indeed forced on Hessenthaler, why didn't he go out and sign better? If he didn't rate Julian (which he didn't) then why did he only sign the hapless Cronin to compete with him? Cronin's 'performances' cost us more than Julian's did.

I hope we get promoted, but unless the striker situation is sorted out, there's no chance. If Kedwell were to struggle, we really don't have a prayer, regardless of our defence and midfield. It's a tough league this season, and it's vital that we hit the ground running, especially against one of the worst teams in it on Saturday.

Realistically - playoffs...I`d love it to be automatic but as we all know we need more firepower up front.
If we do not make playoffs the season will definitely be seen as a failure. The players we have brought in are certainly good enough, we need goals and need to show more fight than the awful performances when the pressure was on at the end of last season.
The CatMan...sort it out Hess

I think we will go up in third place, we have got a cracking squad with some good quality players that have proved themselves in higher divisions. I believe that Gazza will be a fantastic keeper and Hessy should be using him as the No1. Could go up as champions if we sign another forward someone like cody mac and also believe we need to look at a pacy wide player as pace scare defenders in this division. Should be a good season already looking forward to my first game which is Crewe away.

Pace isn't everything, quality is good.
Think of Gareth Ainsworth...

Four slow centre halves, I'm sure Frampton will be good but Lawrence was awful for the run in last season, I don't expect anything from King and Richards is Richards! We have a strong midfield but we don't have a left sided player so this is a major major shortcoming, and the fact the club haven't said they want to sign a left sided midfielder is a worry. Up front we have an unproven striker with not a lot of pace. On the bench we will have an unproven goalie, Fish or Fuller which is good competition,King/Richards which is average, Jackman(versatile but not good enough) Rooney(who now we are not playing Ashford and the dog and duck reserves I don't think will be of any use) Weston(who everyone thinks is great but I just don't! sorry) and the goalscoring exploits of Payne/Oli. Its not a cracking squad... a decent team that hopefully goes a lot of games without injuries or suspensions

Realistically I think we will be finishing in the play offs
Automatic would be excellent and I would take my hat off to Scally and Hessentahler.
Outside play offs and it will be a miserable Summer 2012 with plenty of soulsearching.

Can I just remind you that the same King & Richards were the centre-back pairing who got us out of this league before and we also have the very capable Callum Davies. I realise there are question marks over King's fitness, but I'd argue those 3 as back up are as strong as any in this league.
