Listening to the game this evening it seems as though we could have got at least a point following a much improved second half display with Cody McDonald atoning for an earlier miss with his 12th goal of the season - and by all accounts he could have finished with three or four with better finishing.
Interestingly, Cody is one of the most prolific strikers ever to play for The Gills and the stats below prove it as he is averaging well over a goal every other game and this compares very well with the list of all-time Gills' goalscorers with only Hughie Russell scoring more regularly.
Player Appearances Goals Average per game Hughie Russell 209 120 0.57 CODY MCDONALD 76 41 0.54 Ernie Morgan 163 77 0.47 Ken Price 194 89 0.46 Tug Wilson 253 113 0.45 Tony Cascarino 269 110 0.41 Brian Gibbs 284 110 0.39 Brian Yeo 387 147 0.39 Steve Lovell 275 104 0.38 Danny Westwood 238 77 0.32 Damien Richardson 357 102 0.29
As far as I can recollect, non of Cody's goals have come from the penalty spot whereas several other players totals include spot kicks and the number of appearances don't take into account appearances as a substitute - and in Hughie Russell's case all of his games were full appearances.
The stats speak for themselves - Cody has missed a few good chances in the past few weeks but for me he's fast getting back to his best and will surely pass the 50 goal mark before the end of this season and let's hope his form continues into next season!

Cody is a exceptional striker, he will prove to be a legend if we can keep him here long term. I for one think he is our main striker, be happy to let keds leave and always knew Cody was the best. Bayo and Cody have a great understanding, so goodbye keds because you are not worthy of another contract,

and by all accounts he could have finished with three or four with better finishing. I think the above is also a telling comment as he regularly gets multiple chances in a match since the team is kinda set up for him. I do wonder what his goals per chances ratio is? Whenever he gets a chance and is one on one with the keeper, I am never completely confident of him scoring. Unlike Bob Taylor of whom I suspect has a very similar goals per game ratio as well as creating goals for other...

still think we should have brought in an experienced forward who has done it in the higher leagues to work alongside cody and bring his finishing up to a higher level.Until we do,I can't see codys chance:goal ratio getting any higher.

Cody reminds me of Cas. Scores lots of goals so long as he doesn't have too long to think about it.

Super Bob's stats were very impressive when he was at Priestfield - scoring 33 goals in 61 games and also on an average of 0.54. However, when he returned on loan from Wolves he failed to score in 11 appearances so his overall average dropped as a result to 0.46 - still highly impressive.

Is everyone forgetting the fact that Cody makes the required runs ect to get the chances, If he scores a goal per game and misses 2 other chances ill take that, especially if he made the 3 chances with good runs. His record for gills is superb, end off.

Good lower league strikers miss chances because they get in position to get chances. Simeon Jackson had a pretty average chance to goal ratio from what I remember. A top level striker takes his chances.

Bob Taylor actually scored 39 goals for us in 70 matches (all competitions), which gives a peercentage of 0.56. The 33 goals in 61 games is league only. Plus as I say, Taylor also set up countless goals for the likes of Asaba - McDonald is simply a finisher. I'm not including the publicity stunt that was his "return" since practically all his appearences saw him coming on as a sub trying to get his crippled body somewhere resembling fitness.

He is a top striker, but as with most misses a fair few. Agree with point above, when he has time (1 on 1's) he more often misses. That being said, would have him in my team every week.

I remember one match when Alan Green was commentating on Man City just after Bob Taylor had moved there. Apparently Super Bob had let himself go a bit over the summer and Alan Green kept laughing at him, saying he was no better than a pub footballer. It seemed such a waste when he had been scoring goals for fun the season before.

42 goals now in 77 games improves his average to 0.55

I think any striker who can bag 1 goal for every 2 games is very decent, 1 in 3 is ok too. So cody is bloody fantastic
