Should be available subject to the right precautions being in place. As long as they don't go back to the old days and treat you like cattle and cram 2000 people in a space the size of a postage stamp it won't be an issue. Anyway, as long as plenty of seating left for old gits like me I'm fine!

Good call dc83, forgot how much they used to stitch you up for wanting to sit as opposed to stand. Perhaps that's why the clubs are so in favour of it! As to 1940, you sure you wasn't gillsjan, you seem to be "in the know"!!! (I sit in the Rainham End block 4 row b seat 68 if you're looking for revenge, yeah right.

I'm of the view that there is no such thing as safe standing. I've been going to football for over 25 years and I've stood on a packed Rainham end, the kop and others. While the atmosphere was great, I think all seated stadia are progress. I can only imagine how the hillsborough families would feel as well if standing came back

While the atmosphere was great, I think all seated stadia are progress. I can only imagine how the hillsborough families would feel as well if standing came back If Liverpool supporters would be that upset It's a shame that so many of them insist on standing in the seating areas then. Every time I watch teams in the premiership on TV you can clearly see thousands of them standing. Especially in the corners and behind the goals. Even a section at the rear of the Rainham End stand throughout the game. If the authorities can't enforce the rule to sit down, maybe there is an argument for safe standing. The word safe being the important factor. As long as they don't stand in front of me in the seated areas they can stand in the safe standing areas with my blessing.

If you watch the video it is clear that the Dormund example has a seat and a rail meaning as I see it it is as safe if not safer than normal seating areas.I doubt it would be as easy to climb over the seats for example.Had this style of standing been in place at Hillsborough there would be no way that it could have caused the same problem in my view.

Even a section at the rear of the Rainham End stand throughout the game. I think the difference is, the Rainham End is never so full that the fact maybe a hundred of us stand up isn't going to cause safety issues. The safety officers do come up and moan at people and recently forced someone to move because their shoe was positioned on "the steps". I hate this debate whenever it is on the radio that people point out that lower divisions have stands without issues, while ignoring you won't get a crush of fans when the stand is half full. In some ways, Hillsborough wasn't caused by the fact it was all standing. It was caused by the fact there were too many people allowed into a space not designed for so many people. Add to the fact the poorly designed tunnel that lead into the stands.

I know this is a general discussion but at The Gills we never get enough people to the seated areas let alone creating a standing area. I wondered who it was making all that noise in The Rainham End block 4 row B seat 68 (Muppet)!!!! I wish I could understand what some of the "chants" mean!

If we did go for "safe standing", it would make sense to make it down the Town End of the ground.
And the obvious question is: If we did reintroduce it, how many would move from their current seating to the standign area? Personally, I don't think the atmosphere would match the old Priestfield.

What is meant by "safe standing" anyway ? Did we have it before, when the Rainham End was just a piece of terracing with yellow crush bars on it? As I recall, if you didn't want to join in with any crowd surges, you merely had to stand in front of one of the bars. Seemed safe enough to me, and I was only about 12 at the time. And I think you're right johnknee - tribal memories run deep. I can't see anyone moving from the Rainham End to the Town End just so they can stand up.

What i want to know is what is the deal with the Town end stand, It was erected to be temporary and we rented it i think, that was near 15 years ago, are we still renting it, do we own it, Does it have to pass monthly/yearly inspections. Does it have a lifespan.

I would welcome the idea of standing areas in stadiums again, because they were safe, but once the fencing went up behind the goals, there lied the problem. It is a sensitive issue but with proper safeguards in place it would be nice stay up. I loved it standing behind the rainham end in the past.
