Never saw either of them play as before my time, but a few of the oldies around me say they were both very good players, especially Yeo who they talk very highly about.

Two very fine but very different strikers. Gibbs had a powerful shot on the run and worked defenders tirelessly. Yeo was slighter but trickier and a master of the angles, often slotting goals in with a comparatively light touch. I suspect Peter Taylor would welcome them both to his squad. I seem to remember Yeo having to play in poorer sides for several seasons and sometimes not even playing up front. He did enjoy that purple season 1973/4 when Andy Nelson set the team up to his strengths. Gibbs went on to enjoy a swansong at Layer Road and played in the historic defeat of the then mighty Leeds United. He set up one of their three goals that day.

I saw Brian Yeo play over a few seasons and remember well the promotion season with Andy Nelson at the helm. That was a very solid and creative team with the likes of Alan Wilkes coming in from QPR. Yeo was often compared to Jimmy Greaves in his ability to poach goals inside the 6 yard box with a deft touch, a quick slide whatever. There was a lot more to Greaves's game, of course, and there was more to Yeo also. An excellent servant to the club who labored on some pretty inauspicious teams but gave it his best.
