Is this cheap journalism (tongue placed firmly in cheek as I no done out of the kindest of their own heart ). I have to say only been to home games and so my mind will be clouded by the 11 pts v 8pts but also that is through playing one game less, so my own gut feeling we are quite a bit better than last year. Yes Scunthorpe was an awful result but with 10 men that happens more time than not. I also feel we have had a few unlucky dropped points with very late goals against.
Tuesday will be tough but personally don't think winning is essential for Taylor and in my opinion not a deadman walking yet.

Difference between seasons is this time as others have said we are trying something different. Also this time the league is a much closer affair.

This time of the season in 1999 we had 16 points as against 13 now, we went on to beat Wigan in the Play Offs after just missing automatic promotion. It is much too early to be talking of changing managers or anything so drastic.Nobody was suggesting automatic promotion this season, most of us said we would be happy with a top ten finish. We have played thirteen of forty six games, that means we have thirty three to go(99 points)it is much too early to start fretting. Peter Taylor is trying to build a squad that plays passing football not hoofball. It will take time.It took Tony Pulis three season to make the Play Offs and that was with money to spend. The evolution of the squad will not be smooth as we saw with Scunthorpe, but I believe we are gradually seeing an improvement in the performances, and a top half or top ten finish is more than probable.

I often wonder if the fact that Taylor replaced a successful manager in Allen the reason so many people chose to dislike him from the start.

Pt is just not what some gills fans see as a local type lad and as he doesn't seem to mingle as much with fans I don't think he will ever get that close and be a fans favourite.

Peter Taylor is a very experienced professional coach, but has never really achieved the same level as a club manager. There is a difference. I doubt he sees mingling with fans as part of his job. A coach is best on the training ground and picking the team all the PR can be left others, post match interviews must be tiresome to him, Martin Allen could stand in front of a microphone and talk for five minutes and say nothing, PT cannot. In my view these interviews are a pointless waste of time. Since PS took over we have had 15 managers (if you count caretaker managers as well) counting Hess and PT only once.
Peter taylor has been given a two year contract, let's see where we are then before changing managers again.

By the time Martin Allen left; Gillingham were a poor and disintegrating team. All the swagger and confidence of promotion had evaporated and we had an extremely limited squad playing limited football. Worse still there appeared to be nothing on the horizon as regards youth. Sure we had a smattering of debuts at Burton, which smacked of nepotism and point scoring, but no one was coming through. We had got rid of Jack Payne because the manager deemed him not good enough. Not my words but what Scally reported Allen saying. At that stage we were not only heading for certain relegation but staff throughout the club were becoming disaffected. Martin won us the championship and endeared himself to many fans but he simply had to go.
Fast forward a year and we have an entirely different situation. We have a team that can play football on its day. Currently we don't do it often enough but we are not light years behind the league in technical ability and tactics anymore. We have some promising young players and when the first choice defence plays they look secure. Time will tell if Taylor gets it right but he deserves more time. Allen didn't deserve a second longer when he went.

Strange that anyone can think we are in the same position as last year. There really is a huge difference. As has been correctly said Martin Allen's side were going back down fast.He had clearly lost the dressing room.Fast forward a year anyone who thought this league would be a walk in the park is sadly underrated most of the teams in it.We have moved forward a little having not been able to spend any real money. The big difference is that this side unlike many others that we have had will get better in time.I was, I have to admit against the Taylor appointment but credit where it is due there are promising signs all be it not reflected in results too much.Taylor deserves time to make it work moving on now is clearly not what the players want. Scunthorpe played well against us time some people gave credit where it is due.Our team still need our support this week we play some vital games. Support the team and stop manager bashing we are not going to change now so it is time those who are looking for a scapegoat looked at themselves. Are you really helping our young side fight their way up the league or just wanting a change for the sake of it.
