This is a must win for Gills – they are desperate for the points and a defeat by Crewe would mean Gills into the bottom four and Crewe above them – out of the relegation places for the first time since August. John Egan replaced at the last minute – possibly some problem in the ‘warm-up or Egan carrying an injury from the Bristol City game - anyway young Josh is in the starting line-up’. It’s very cold ‘tup here!
Gills team: Stuart Nelson, Gavin Hoyte, Josh Hare, Leon Legge, Max Ehmer, Doug Loft (captain), Jake Hessenthaler, Bradley Dack, Jermaine McGlashan, Cody McDonald and John Marquis (on his debut).
Subs are: Glenn Morris, Josh Hare, Staunton, Romeo, Galbraith, Brennan Dickenson and Luke Norris.
Bright start from Gills attacking Crewe with a shot in the first minute from debut striker John Marquis but unfortunately into row Z.
5 minutes: Header into the path of Dack by Cody McDonald but his first time shot went wide.
8 minutes: Marquis out to show the Gills coaching staff with another shot that this time was on target but well saved by Garratt in the Crewe goal.
9 minutes: Good penalty shout from Crewe but thankfully referee Brown waves away the protests by the home crowd and some players.
12 minutes: Free-kick from Crewe that is defended well. Pretty even game so far but both teams look very average I'm afraid

CREWE 0 v GILLS 0
15 minutes: Crewe sweep forward with purpose and overrun Gills in midfield but the final pass was not good enough and Gills smother and clear with Loft taking it away.
17 minutes : Crewe's Bailey puts a good cross into the Gills area but cleared by Legge and Cody sets Marquis away but Crewe break up the attack and there is more midfield play from both teams.
18 minutes: Corner from Crewe that comes to nothing. Free-kick for Crewe into the area but easily saved by Stuart Nelson.
20 minutes: This is a dour football match with a biting wind in the stands and little or no action on (or off) the pitch.
28 minutes: Loft gets ball in the middle and sends Hoyte away but Crewe's Tate clears out of the area. No quality from any player - as yet - but DISASTER. Referee gives a penalty against Gavin Hoyte,
Looks like a dive but the referee is the man in charge - Leeds on-loan Nicky Ajose runs up and SCORES past Nelson.

CREWE 1 v GILLS 0
The penalty was harsh as Hoyte hardly touched the player who went down slowly to get the penalty. Leon Legge booked for jumping at the Crewe goalie - possibly out of frustration. The Gills bench are hopping about mad as anything and the Gills players are losing it. Doug Loft booked and Crewe get a free-kick - comes over and then CREWE SCORE again through Nicky Ajose who gets his second.
Mountain to climb now for Gills as they go two down, Gills have lost theur heads and I can't see them coming back from this.

CREWE 2 v GILLS 0 - Nicky Ajose has scored five goals since coming to Crewe on loan in five matches.
36 minutes: Crewe are all over Gills and their shape has gone with the home side full of confidence. Another free-kick for Crewe and the shot was on target saved well by Stuart Nelson.
38 minutes: Nicky Ajose through again and stopped by a last minute tackle from Hoyte that prevented a one on one with Nelson and possibly the striker's third of the afternoon.
39 minutes: Jermaine McGlasham gets the ball - possibly for the first time this half! - crosses in and Marquis gets a header on target. Gills have to get more of this as at the moment they are just not in this game.
40 minutes: Bradley Dack crunches a tackle with a jump and luckily the referee shows mercy and he didn't even get a yellow - lucky boy, Gills need stronger leadership on and off the pitch to calm things down and to concentrate on the task in hand. Gills must take something from this game but it's a long way back from 2-0 down.
41 minutes: Jermaine McGlashan does a 'dying swan' in the area looking for a possible foul and was another lucky Gills player not to be booked for a 'dive' - referee might be average but he is not stupid.
43 minutes: Crewe taking Gills apart and the half-time break is needed by Gills coaching staff to re-organise.
44 minutes: McGlashan into the area and he shoots across the keeper with Cody Mac just missing connecting with the ball as he slides into the far post.
45 + 2 minutes of added time: Gills free-kick from Jake Hessenthaler that comes to nothing.
Half-Time: CREWE 2 (Nicky Ajose 2) v GILLS 0

SECOND HALF STARTS: No changes evident and is it going to be a miracle in the second 45 minutes? - CREWE 2 v GILLS 0
47 minutes: Could have been well out of reach as that man Nicky Ajose runs through and one on one against Nelson looking for his third of the afternoon but Nelson saves!
48 minutes: Two corners in quick succession for Gills taken by Hessenthaler but although McGlashan and Marquis tried to get to the ball they just failed and the corners came to nothing.
49 minutes: Hare to McGlashan to Dack but this smart Gills move was finally ended because of an offside.
52 minutes: Legge wacks a long high ball into the Crewe area but a running Cody MCDonald was given offside.
55 minutes GREAT GOAL - GILLS SCORE by CODY who fires in from close range.

CREWE 2 v GILLS 1 (Cody McDonald's 12th of season)
57 minutes: How games change - it's now Gills looking full of energy and fight and Crewe dejected - hopefully Gils can get a second.
59 minutes: McGlashan down the left wing and shoots but wide of the Crewe post. Dack on the attack and fires an effort saved by Crewe and cleared.
60 minutes: Dack land captain Loft ooking very bright and trying to get things moving on the edge of the area combining well with Loft and Hoyte.
Open play now and Gills much, much better now as the Gills management send on first sub Marquis comes off and Luke Norris joins the attack.
62 minutes: All Gills now attack after attack looking for the equaliser with majority of play in the Crewe's half forcing the home team to defend deep.
66 minutes: McGlashan trying to create on the wing but Crewe break with the ball and force Gills to run back and defend with Hoyte blocking but Nelson saves the day again.
68 minutes: Crewe's Uche Ikpeazu easily beats Gills defender Maz Ehmer and from inside the penalty area shoots into the side netting via the hans of 'England's number One goalie' Stuart Nelson.
70 minutes: Sub for Gills: Brennan Dickenson comes on to replace McGlashan - who I have to say is a player that appears to drift in and out of games - bit of a luxury that Gills cannot afford given their league position.
20 minutes plus added time left for Gills to claim a point

CREWE 2 v GILLS 1
74 minutes: Free kick for Crewe that comes to nothing and Gills win a free for a foul on Dack that also come to nothing. Crewe have slowed the proceedings to calm things and taking their time.
76 minutes: Norris run and pass to Dack and his cross was just too far for Cody as Garratt in the Crewe goal makes a comfortable save.
80 minutes: Gills stil forcing the pace but leaving gaps at the back that could be exploited by Crewe if they break quickly.
82 minutes: Crewe waste a bit more time and take off Crewe's goal scorer Nicky Ajose with Lauri Dalla Valle.
GAME OVER as CREWE score their third and it looked like a hand ball as Gills players surround the referee but the goal stands. Uche Ikpeazu fell down moved the ball with his arm, got up and found the bottom right corner.

CREWE 3 v GILLS 1
Didn't see why but Cody McDonald gets a yellow card.
Gills feeling hard done by with a dubious penalty and a 'hand ball' goal - to score two of their goals. Gills have lost discipline this afternoon. Uche Ikpeazu nearly gets another but Nelson saves. Crewe's Lauri Dalla Valle has an effort on target. Crewe playing keep ball with the crowd cheering every pass and Gills are now looking a well beaten team.
4 minutes of added time: Gills trying to go forward but no luck.
FINAL SCORE: CREWE 3 v GILLS 1 and Gills into the bottom four staring relegation in the face and four points worse off then this stage last season. They are looking a poor rudderless outfit without direction on and off the pitch.
Gills coaching staff ready to have a serious go at the ref as the final whistle goes. Disappointing cold afternoon and Gills on their way to League Two if they repeat this type of performances.

Cheers I-blue for your hard work with the reports, much appreciated. As soon as the team was listed was so concerned not just about the defence, but the midfield has to be the most lightweight in gills history. We are deep in trouble if we have to play with this squad for much longer

We were going down under Taylor but at the mo with this team with Legge in defence and a lightweight midfield it looks like we are not just going down but could finish bottom!! Did Egan play today?

I do t think we were going down under Taylor there are many of us who feel the decision was wrong to sack him and that he should have stayed to finish the job.

When he was sacked there were four teams who were worse than us. Now one of them has played us off the park. That's progress?

Up until a couple of weeks ago I was confident that we would stay up, now for the first time I think we will go down. What a complete mess. Peter Taylor will be back in work shortly and our Chairman has put us in a untenable position and ruined our chances of staying up.

Taylor was incompetent as a manager our chairman is super incompetent sadly it is all going to end in a inevitable conclusion, relegation!! Unless Scally employs a manager who can put up with his ego and realise the problems in our side, central midfield and central defence, relegation is the only conclusion!
