Does anyone feel that we are making to many loan signings? as its ok getting players in, but when they go back to there parent clubs as quick as they come, could this disrupt trying to establish a settled side.
I would personally like to see more permanent signings players that come to this football knowing they will be with us for at least one season,as it must be frustrating when a manager is trying to establish a consistent team when players come and go, but there again whose thought is that. sometimes feel that the likes of Gillingham are slowly becoming reserve sides for the upper league teams. but this seems to be the current trend for all lower league clubs whether right or wrong..

In our current position,I see no option other than to bring in loan players, any incoming manager is going to want his own selection of players. Our main problem at the moment seems to be if we get a new manager, or not, in time to make use of the January window

I have to agree at the current time its the best option until a new manager comes in. But previous to the sacking of Taylor we were still continuing the loan trend.
Please lets try and establish our own team once again ..

It might be the case that many of these loan signings have their sights on higher things and would never consider signing for us permanently. The only way we can get this quality of player is through the loan system.

As said previously the loan market is what has kept a lot of lower league teams in business over the past few years and unless the share of cash in football is shifted lower it will continue.

Bringing in loan players is fine but they must be here to play and be better than what we already have in our squad.
The other important factor is continuity something peter taylor failed to address. You need your core of the squad based around players like nelson, egan, cody and loft. Too many loan players can take too long to gel so getting the balance is vitally important and its what managers are paid to do and their judgement on players and their attributes and characteristics will determine if they are right for us.

Firstly, they have been. Sorry disagree, usually had 2 loan players in the majority of the time unless injuries when we drafted in a left back. As to the core, when not injured the individuals you mention have featured, but we aint exactly flying high, or have I got the league table upside down!

Personally, I much rather have our own players in the team but our squad players are generally very weak and i dont think many of us had much confidence in them. Players like linganzi, German and pritchard who are poor players in my opinion and it was cruel to play them because they were out of their depth in league 1 and to be perfectly honest I'm not too sure they were even football league standard.
so taylor resorted to the loan system to bring in players when in actual fact he knew we had a unbalanced squad.

We've criticised the club in the past for not making use of the loan system, so can't have it both ways. I thought it was good that we were using contacts to bring in good players for small money. Players like doughty, Chicksen and Ehmer wouldn't be at gills otherwise. Hopefully the new left back is half is good as Chicksen

I hope pulis loaned us a decent defender. I'm sure Tony wouldn't let him join us unless he was ready from the off. Gone to game now so hope he plays well and helps us tighten up at the back.

Until we get a new manager loan signings are far better than permanent players, any new manager will want his own team.

Sounds like the loan signings that played today (and well done to them all) are going to stay till the end of the season, not shore about Marquis as i think his currently on a 1 month. going by yesterdays performance it would be good to see him here at least to the end of the season. Also Ehmer..
Its ok to have loan signings if they are to be with us long term (End of season)thus giving us that bit of stability. its when they are recalled early from there parent clubs that im against, as previously stated.
A Big well done to the Gills yesterday, we showed great character to come back from 1 0 down with only some 9 minutes to go.never gave up. that's all we want to see as fans..

I agree with diehard1, I would like to have a manager who tries to develop our own young players. I feel that, over the last few seasons, we have not given young players a decent chance and got shot of them too soon. By definition, loan players are going to return to their club and you have to start all over again.
