Walsall have not found a win in their last four home games and are one of the lowest scoring teams in the League. Prospects look good for a confident looking Gills side unbeaten in their last three games. One change from the JPTrophy televised match.
Gills starting line-up: Stuart Nelson, Jake Hessenthaler, Max Ehmer, John Egan, Gavin Hoyte, Josh Pritchard, Doug Loft, Jermaine McGlashan, Bradley Dack, John Marquis and Cody McDonald.
Gills substitutes: Glen Morris, Devante McKain, Bradley Garmston, Leon Legge, Danny Galbraith, Brennan Dickenson and Luke Norris.
5 minutes: Shot from Walsall's Taylor on target but saved by Stuart Nelson who will be looking to keep his first clean sheet of the season.
7 minutes: Walsall's Adam Chambers fires across the face of goal but easily cleared up-field by John Egan.
Gills taking a little time to settle but at the moment Walsall are not forcing the pace too much to worry the Gills defence.
9 minutes: Referee Carl Berry - not someone you want to get on the wrong side of - books Gavin Hoyte for a rough/dangerous tackle, his third of the season.
12 minutes: Subdued Gills giving Walsall far too much room as Michael Cain powers a 18 yard shot that flashes just past Nelson's left hand post.

Walsall 0 v Gills 0
Gills at last getting some ball in midfield through Bradley Dack and Josh Pritchard but no real attack on the Walsall goal yet involving Marquis & Cody. Plenty of time to improve though for the unpredicable Gills.
15 minutes: Two quick corners from Walsall with the home team well on top. Shot cleared off the line by Cody McDonald and the follow-up shot was tipped around the post for another corner. This was cleared by the Gills defence.
17 minutes: McGlashan in the action for the first time putting over a good cross from the right for Cody McDonald to control but put a header to wide of the post. Minute later a shot followed by Doug Loft that was easily saved.
22 minutes: Walsall free-kick taken by Andy Taylor goes over the Gills wall but easily saved by Nelson.
25 minutes: Still Walsall slightly on top forcing minor mistakes from the Gills defence but thankfully nothing dangerous enough for them to get a clear effort on target. At the moment this is what is known as a typical Gills away performance.
26 minutes: Cross by Walsall's Purkiss that took a nasty deflection into the path of Cook at the far post. His effort needed a great and typical Nelson save to keep the game 0-0 by giving away a corner. Gavin Hoyte cleared from the resulting kick and Gills live again.
Walsall well on top and looking the team most likely to open the scoring.

Walsall 0 v Gills 0
32 minutes: Gills attacking move stopped short of the Walsall area and Walsall come on the break earning another fee-kick in a dangerous position just outside the area taken by Walsall's Forde that whistles over Nelson's bar with him covering.
Almost non-stop pressure from Walsall and if you are a Gills fan you get the feeling...
Against the run of play John Marquis has the ball and drives forward swapping pases with Pritchard and he lets fly but goalie O'Donnell hardly looks and is not troubled.
35 minutes: Doug Loft puts over a free-kick into the path of Bradley dack who crosses into the Walsall area but no Gills forward in sight.
40 minutes: Walsall send a nice through ball beating the Gills defence but Stuart Nelso comes out fast to cut out the danger.
Gills starting to come into the game more but another attack stopped by the Walsall defence. Referee Berry having to speak to players on both sides for some robust tackles. Loft and Dack putting themselves about with Loft playing in the left-back position. Pritchard booked for a bad tackle. Will there be eleven a side at the finish of this match?
44 minutes: Marquis sends Cody away and he is brought down on the edge of the area - penalty claims waved away by ref Berry.
45 minutes + 2 added: Walsall nearly take the lead but denied by another TWO superb saves by Nelson. He first went down low to save a shot and then stopped Cook at the near post from hitting home.
Half-Time: Walsall 0 v Gills 0 - In the half-time break Gills have got to work out ways of getting shots on target to stop Walsall from dictating the way this game is progressing - got to give them something to think and worry about.

Second half starts: Walsall 0 v Gills 0
No changes for Gills but Walsall make a substitution, Chambers off replaced by James O'Connor.
47 minutes: Cody chases down a long ball and gets it to Hoyte who crosses with Doug Loft shooting on target saved by Richard O'Donnell in the Walsall goal.
50 minutes: More action from Gills then the whole first 45 thus far this half - Jermaine McGlashan puts Cody away, but was forced wide to the by-line by the goalie and he had to pass back to Dack who headed over. This is better from Gills - making Walsall work harder.
52 minutes: McGlashan forces another corner that unfortunately comes to nothing.
55 minutes: Walsall on the attack and as the ball came into the area it was picked up neatly by Stuart Nelson - Gills Man of the Match so far....
57 minutes: Gills corner taken by Jake Hessenthaler - headed out and another corner this time taken by Loft - headed away to safety.
58 minutes: Max Ehmer saves the day to deny Bradshaw a clear shot on Nelson's goal. Minute later and Bradshaw again with a shot just past the Gills post.
60 minutes: Walsall's top scorer Bradshaw has to go off (can't say Gills will be sorry) holding hamstring and Ashley Grimes comes on to replace him.
62 minutes: John Marquis sent through by Pritchard but his shot was easily saved.

Walsall 0 v Gills 0
Announcer says the attendance is 3,951 and that includes 178 Gillingham fans.
Game is pretty even at the moment but it only takes a second to change the game and it would be a brave supporter who puts their money on a winner to this contest.
64 minutes: A long ball forward (route one) and sub Grimes was through and with a good sight of goal was denied by a great tackle from John Egan. A corner resulted that came to nothing.
69 minutes: GOAL FOR GILLS scored by BRADLEY DACK. An excellent finish by the Gills midfielder after receiving the ball forward from John Egan and Dack was inside the area. Despite appeals for offside Dack shot between the goalie's leg.

Walsall 0 v Gills 1 (Dack)
72 minutes: Cody Mcdonald brought down in the area but no penalty! Cody gets yellow from the myopic Carl Berry for protesting what looked like a cert penalty. The resulting corner was met by John Egan but his effort was easily cleared. Hard to see why that was not a penalty but leave that to the replay viewers.
75 minutes: Sense of injustice now...as Walsall equalise. Loft now booked. Walsall sub Ashley Grimes puts it in from close range. Nelson couldn't get two hands on the cross and the loose ball dropped nicely to Grimes for a tap-in.

Walsall 1 v Gills 1
15 minutes left and Gills need the point and defending for their lives as Walsall come on strong with the equaliser giving them hope.
78 minutes: Gavin Hoyte heads down but the ball goes to Walsall's Sawyers who thankfully blasts over the bar when well placed.
82 minutes: Gills Josh Pritchard comes off and Bradley Garmston replaces him. Still Walsall coming on strong with Ashley Grimes only just short picking up a cross into the box.
84 minutes: Bradley Garmston takes over at left back allowing Loft into midfield. He gets the ball and tries his luck but shoots too high.
Eight minutes plus added time to go and Gills have to try and get the winner to ease their relegation fears. Another booking for Gills as Max Ehmer goes into that nice Mr. Berry's book.
88 minutes: Worryingly it is all Walsall attacking with Gills falling back covering. Not good for any Gills supporter with weak hearts!
89 minutes: Danny Galbraith on for Jake Hessenthaler plus Cody Mac off and Luke Norris on for Gills but no attacking intent that I can see from Gills resulting from these changes.
Four minutes of added time.
A draw is probably a fair result and although Walsall showed a lot of attacking intent they failed to push Gills to the limit. Gills possibly should have won as it was a clear penalty on Cody Mac when Gills were one goal to the good. Another at that stage of the game would have sealed a win. Still, a point is better than nothing and leaves Gills on the same number of points as the same number of games played last season.
Full Time: Walsall 1 (Grimes) v GILLS 1 (Dack)

Just got back from the game.
Walsall were much the better team, they played the better football and moved the ball around nicely, but for some wayward finishing it could have been worse.
I was disappointed with today's result because we really had a decent chance of winning this game but you could see where we are going wrong, ball retention is still a problem with this team, dack is a class apart in the midfield, he two steps ahead of any of our other weak midfielders, loft is proving to be a big disappointment, jake hessenthaler needs to be dropped, he has no desire to venture forward and some of the fans were giving him stick for constantly play balls backwards instead of towards opposition goal, pritchard still has not convinced me he is worth preserving with, I firmly believe we have a very poor midfield who constantly get out battled only dack and macglashan can say they are worth the shirt. Cody and marquis constantly had to drop deep to get the ball because they were receiving no service.
You can see there is no organisation or structure throughout the team and build up play was very predictable, I don't think we look particularly solid at the back , maybe play Egan in central midfield with dack and let ehmer and legge deal with the aerial threat, we do look vulnerable from set pieces and once again undone by one for their equaliser , so soon after we scored, nelson is a great shot stopper but he needs to come out for crosses more, rooted to his spot to much.
Conclusion.... In short
Hoyle, jake Hess, loft and pritchard should be dropped because they have been poor all season, jake and loft have both gone off and we still play them, the go4 must act soon, pretty much every game this season our midfield has let us down badly and the stats prove it, only dack and recently jermaine can be happy with their effects.

888, Hoyte was one of your first names on the teamsheet a couple of weeks ago and along with Loft, Cody, Nelson and Egan were the only players you felt were good enough. You're now saying Loft and Hoyte aren't upto it!!! You change your mind each week!
Ps- stato, Dacky got his goal after being moved to the wing. I might be wrong about his best position, but he's decent there and the team had more balance with 2 wide men
