Gills face Bristol City for the fifth time this season still seeking their first win against the runaway League One leaders and Championship bound side. City won in midweek against bottom club Yeovil and currently are thirteen points clear at the top. The chart below shows the number of Gills players used and their appearances against Bristol City in the previous four matches and the time they spent on the pitch. Gills goal scorers against City have been Kedwell (pen); Cody with three and McGlashan with one. GOALS APP MINS 01 Nelson 4 360 04 Egan 4 360 08 Hessenthaler 4 360 03 Martin 4 345 10 McDonald 3 4 337 31 Hoyte 3 270 07 Loft 3 267 24 Dickenson 4 255 11 McGlashan 1 3 245 06 Legge 2 180 09 Kedwell1 (pen) 2 180 05 Ehmer 2 180 18 Pritchard 2 180 21 Doughty 2 180 23 Dack 2 180 05 Hause 1 90 21 Doughty 1 90 29 Lennon 1 90 16 Linganzi 1 90 19 Norris 3 52 14 German 1 23 02 Garmston 1 3
Gills starting line-up for today's match is with debut boy Oliver Muldoon but without the 'ever present' Jake Hessenthaler is:
Stuart Nelson, Gavin Hoyte, John Egan, Max Ehmer, Joe Martin, Aaron Morris, Oliver Muldoon, Bradley Dack, Doug Loft, Cody McDonald and John Marquis. Gills substitutes: Glenn Morris, Leon Legge, Mahon Romeo, Danny Galbraith, Jermaine McGlashan, Brennan Dickenson and Luke Norris.
5 minutes: Steady start but Gills looking lively - corner for Gills not cleared and Dack puts loose ball into the side netting.
7 minutes: Korey Smith crosses but john Egan clears for the Gills who are looking ok at the back
10 minutes: Muldoon getting himself about with some nice touches in these early stages no doubt wanting to impress - Freeman starting to force himself into this game from midfield.
12 minutes: Corner for City but cleared by John Egan. Joe Martin stops a nice run down the wing and puts ball out for a throw. Another corner for City but comes to nothing.

BRISTOL CITY 0 v GILLS 0
15 minutes: Good Gills career start for Muldoon who has made some nice interceptions and astute passing. Bristol City cruising along at moment but Gills coping well.
17 minutes: Corner for Gills taken by Martin reaches Loft and picked-up by Egan and onto Hoyte who crossed but too high for John Marquis to reach - nice team move though.
20 minutes: John Marquis missed a half-chance in the area but it came at him too fast and he couldn't really control the ball to get a shot away.
22 minutes: Bristol have first their real chance and City's Wilbraham meets a cross from the right but his header is saved by Stuart Nelson. Freeman has been a little quiet but expect him to have a big say in this match.
25 minutes: Good saving tackle by Loft in the area and City have a corner from Freeman but no real threat and Gills get a goal kick.
26 minutes: Up the other end and Gills get a corner. Muldoon takes the corner but headed away although picked up by Ehmer who switches to Loft. Good play this from Gills and Marquis tries his luck which is saved.

BRISTOL CITY 0 v GILLS 0
30 minutes: Near chance for City but expertly cleared by Gills defence and new boy Muldoon. City make a substitute with Williams off and replaced by Cunningham - not sure why possibly an injury I suspect . Half-hour has flown by in an entertaining game although there has been very little shots on target - none in fact! - John Egan landed badly after tackle and lying in the middle of pitch, being seen by trainer. He's ok and will continue.
34 minutes: City's Bryan runs into the area and shoots into the chest of Nelson. First we have seen from City's Agard in this game but he was cut off in his prime by Max Ehmer who is playing well as usual.
37 minutes: Game is still pretty even but would like to see more attacking intent from Gills myself as Bristol City look like they have extra power when needed - very Important for Gills to score the first goal.
38 minutes: City on the attack and a combination of Agard and Freeman nearly force a chance but cleared well by Loft who is having a fine game so far.
42 minutes: Another corner for City but Pack's effort is superbly caught by Stuart Nelson as it came over at a nice height.
44 minutes: Dack on the attack but it is countered by City defence and they move forward yet again.
45 minutes: Right on the stroke of half-time Byran cuts in toward the Gills goal but shoots high and wide into row Z. Doug Loft repeats this act for Gills at the other end as his effort goes high into the stands behind the goal.
Good display by Gills in this first half and although Bristol City have more quality in playing staff they have not really troubled Nelson and Gills are still in with a great chance to either win or get a point from this match

Second half gets underway: BRISTOL CITY 0 v GILLS 0 - No changes as far as I can see - Could do with a nice early goal for Gills!
50 minutes: John Marquis has a half-chance but ball just gets out of control and he cannot get his shot away. City's Bryan tries a deep cross that went just wide. Still no real chance for either side so far. However you get the feeling that there is a goal somewhere in this game.
52 minutes: Decent cross from City to Wilbraham and his header was only just wide of Nelson's post with him scrambling across his goal. Martin to the rescue for Gills as he clears another dangerous City attack.
53 minutes: Gills attack almost non-existent this half so far with Cody not getting anywhere a decent service. Still he only needs one good through ball to latch on to. Gills fans in good voice though encouraging the lads to get 'into them' and 'attack, attack!'.
55 minutes : Gills defence still looking sound as they break up another City attack. City getting on top as their manager urges them forward to see off Gills who are proving more than capable of holding the League leaders.
60 minutes: Hour gone and Stuart Nelson makes a comfortable save from yet another City cross. City have another corner but cleared by Gills defence by John Egan.

BRISTOL CITY 0 v GILLS 0 - Attendance is 11,601 (325 Gills fans)
65 minutes: City should have scored through Agard as Freeman puts over a great cross but the striker puts it over the bar. Minute later and Wilbraham meets a low cross only to not put enough power to trouble Nelson.
66 minutes: Freeman running the show now from midfield and another chance wasted by City as they start to put on the power. Gills buckling under pressure as Nelso misses a back past and Agard wastes another easy chance.
67 minutes: Gills manager Edinburgh sends on McGlashan to replace Muldoon who was looking tired and under pressure. Bristol City are now well on top and force another corner that is thankfully cleared to relieve the pressure.Gills doing well at the back but can they last the match?
69 minutes: Shot by John Marquis from just outside the area but it went over the bar. McGlashan on his first run with the ball since coming on but eventually stopped and cleared. City stepping up[ the pace but Gills holding them. McGlashan has given Gills an outlet and the City pressure can be eased. Gills need once chance - just one chance.
74 minutes: City subs Agard off (possibly because he missed a couple of chances!) being replaced by Emmanuel;-Thomas and Bryan off (who has been good) with Tavenier on.
77 minutes::Looks like Luke Norris is coming on for John Marquis who really hasn't had much joy with the ball this afternoon. Luke Norris straight into the action but without testing the goalkeeper.

BRISTOL CITY 0 v GILLS 0
10 minutes to go and a valuable point for Gills if they can hold on. Another corner for City but headed away by Joe Martin who has had been splendid all afternoon.
82 minutes: City's Ayling puts his header over the bar from very close range and should have done better. City having more of the ball but can't find a way past Nelson as Aaron Morris breaks up another attack.
84 minutes: Breakaway by Gills and McDonald finds Dack who pokes it in the net past Fielding in the City goal from close range but the flag was up for offside! Good move but not a goal.
87 minutes: Good save from Nelson who couldn't hold the ball but using a strong right hand pushed the ball clear from E-Thomas - quality save from Gills 'keeper to keep the game scoreless.
Be a shame now if Gills lose as they deserve a share of the points from a hard game against the League leaders. City come forward again and E-Thomas puts the ball through to Freeman who under challenge from John Egan puts the ball over the bar. That was close as if Freeman had a clear sight he must have scored.
89 minutes: E-Thamos drives forward and would have scored one on one wioth Stuart Nelson but John Egan makes another great block to stop the ball going anywhere near the goal. Gills saw off last second City attacks and the whole Gills team deserve medals. Great defence display and superb team effort.
90 minutes + 4 minutes added time:
This was a fine performance by Gills and a well deserved point against a team that is destined to be Champions and will be in the Championship next season.

Many thanks I-blue for another great report. Well done the team, management and away support. Sounds like Muldoon had a solid first half and maybe the link we have needed of late.

From the radio commentary it sounded as though Jo Martin had a good day at the office as well
