Looks like a good start to the campaign. With minutes to go a 3 to 0 lead that should hold up. Looking forward to the match report......

Who would have bet on 4 goals without reply? COYG - top of the table on GD!

What a fantastic result !! I'm waiting with baited breath for a match report but fully understand that it might be a while before anyone who went to the game stops celebrating long enough to write one!

Where do I start. A magical display full of commitment. A Sheffield Utd fan told me after the game we had a really good side full of pace. While he said they had not played well we did not allow them too. Without Cody, Loft with Emmer and Garmston left out it could be said we were below full strength. But the first player point I have to make is that this is now our first choice side. On Tuesday night no doubt guys like Bradley Garmston will have to roll there sleeves up and try to win a place. A gills fan said to me after the final whistle Dickenson played well. I told him he was my man of the match. He said he did well considering he isn't a left back. My reply he agreed with I said he is now. He tackled like a left back put in some really good crosses. In the middle of defence Egan and Oshilaja were all solid and we're happy to bring the ball out. Ryan Jackson has impressed since day one again he looked the part. On top of his pace which means MacGlashan will have to fight for a place. He has a throw that will shock teams. Better than a corner except Dickenson was largely fired them in on the money. The crowd warmed to the new players. Osadebe has a unique style that fans will warm to I was so pleased he got a early goal as I am sure it helped the lad settle. The crowd on mass stood in the second half to give him the ovation he deserved when he was taken off after what must have been a really happy day for the kid he will never forget. Along side him Bradley Dack was a his best and Gills final goal was a real stunner after good hold up play from Dickenson. Hess who replaced Morris at half time carried on where Morris had left off. Although we did get some pressure after the interval we dealt with everything Sheffield United could throw at us before taking control again ten or fifteen minutes in.In goal Nelson had his moments as they did test us but he stood up to the test and a few wayward kicks apart was at his best. Up top Williamson and Norris worked tirelessly. Norris almost getting on the score sheet with a great free kick from a angle that had their keeper struggling to push it away. All in all it is unlikely to get better but this side has now shown their hand we do have pace and skill and no little commitment. We do lack experience so it will be tough going to all the northern out posts. But the Rainham end really got behind them today with support that has been a long time in coming. That and this performance will give the team confidence. It can be done well done one and all. The players management and the fans can be rightly proud of their part in today. One down 45 to go.

An excellent post statotheblue - the sort of post that an exile that can't get to games appreciate. Nice to see the Rainham End getting behind the lads. It's a long season so wont get too misty eyed but that was one hell of a beating to the supposed favourites for promotion. As you rightly say, one down 45 to go.

I know you posted prematurely sunnyboy, but can I just make the point, we're not joint top we are actually TOP? :-D What a day!
I thought Hess and Dickenson both looked stronger and more able to stand up physically than last season, agree, Dickenson was MOM.
Dack's goal was fancy, but he won't get that much space and time again this season! I think the first goal was Norris?
Was good to see so many United fans staying to applaud our players off at the end, that must say something. Long way to go but not a bad way to start.

Fantastic performance and nostalgically for me removes the ghost of my one and only visit to Sheffield Utd a 4-0 defeat in 1979! The only bad taste from today is hearing about our pathetic chairman's spat with radio Kent! He certainly knows how to rain on your parade!

What an exciting display to put before the large crowd. For once everybody around me in the usually sedate Gordon Road Stand was shouting and clapping their encouragement to this young team and then rightfully joining in the standing ovation at the end. Several players were a revelation especially Brennan Dickinson who should have been MOM. Can't wait for Wigan. They have been warned whereas Sheff U were taken completely by surprise.

I just wish we knew the dates of the home matches earlier so that I could organise my holidays around them !!! I was wondering where you were hope you had a nice time. The match will take some beating atmosphere wise. But perhaps this side can still improve a Sheffield fan I spoke to really rated us. But feet on the floor we will know more about this team by the time they return home in two weeks time. I Guess.
