Love the two wins so far and good to see everyone is so optimistic even with two of our best players out injured (Cody and Loft). The signs look good but I am not going to get carried away. We all know the loss you least expect is not far off. It's inevitable.....we are Gills fans and we know this. However, I am hoping its a few games off and we can rack up a few league wins in a row (not greedy, 6 or 7 would be ok). So here's to the next game.....cheers and UTG

Nice one sunnyboy and get carried away if you want and as I am. Very good game Saturday and great result last night. No doubt there will be a bad patch, there always is, when I will be a grumpy old git then.

It is very early days of course we have some very tough looking games just around the corner. They will show us where we really are of course one league and one cup win means very little long term but as you say it was done without players who could if in form will strengthen the side . However the side we have at the moment have earn the right to be our 1st choice. Even if Cody were back available. No name is too big to leave out if other lesser names are doing a job for the side. Dickenson in for Garmston should teach us that.

Imagine if sat was not a one off result, and we continued to win and stay top of the table, with such a young team. I am sure that would result in every championship team in need of a new manager looking at Jed.. Think it would be better to silently creep up the table that way ( this of course might be wishful thinking)m and get an automatic spot on thelast game of the season ( again wishful thinking). Or would people like us to pull clear at the top of the table with 10 points clear at Xmas ( if only) and put us in the national spotlight ?.

Obviously everybody is pleased with the start and as most of you say, the next few weeks will be an important indication of how the season will pan out. I must admit that when I first took my seat on Saturday and heard the team read out I couldn't believe that Max Ehmer and Bradley Garmston were on the bench. I thought oh no as they were two of the best players for us last season. I was really pleased when they signed, then to see loan players taking their places in the first match, I must admit I felt disappointed. However, as we now know, Adedeji Oshilaja and especially Jordon Houghton were very impressive and I can fully understand why JED made the decisions he did. Nevertheless, I hope Max Ehmer doesn't get too upset about being on the bench and gets his chance to play sooner rather than later. He's far too good to be on the bench and I enjoyed watching him last season. Jordon Houghton was in fact my MOM on Saturday, it's a long time since we've had a player who has so much control of the game. His distribution of the ball was first class and two fifty yard passes were Beckham like. He didn't waste a pass all afternoon.
The only disappointment on Saturday for me once again was the lack of local support for the Gills. Only 5700 Gillingham supporters, playing a Sheffield Utd side and the first game of the season. What do the people in this area want? An area with a population the size of Nottingham and the level of support is pathetic. I notice a number of supporters on this site still have a go at Paul Scally, but he must be disappointed with the lack of numbers through the turnstiles. It's not about him, it's about getting behind the side and taking the club forward. Too many moaners and negative supporters. Even on Saturday some so called supporters near me were having a go at Norris. Let's hope this team can fire up the imagination of the local area and the attendances increase and take the club forward.

The atmosphere on Saturday can only help to swell attendances. There will always be the odd person having a moan about something. But this team looks like having passion in abundance that is something that should up the feel good factor in the crowd. For a long time visiting gills has been more in hope than anything a chance to catch up with friends etc. It seems to me the mood has changed word will get out slowly at first. But we will never get anywhere near crowds of clubs like Forest are so many people who live in medway are from other areas of the UK or even Europe. These people are always going to be more difficult to attract. On the subject of losing players or the manager I very much doubt we have that much to worry about at present. But at least we now have a large number of players that others could want. That isn't something to worry about we should be pleased we have a manager and players other teams want. That means you are getting somewhere it's when you have nobody any other teams wants that you should worry.

We know from when we were in the Championship we can attract larger crowds consistently but for many with families it's just a bridge too far to afford the tickets to go. We also know that quality football attracts people as well and if we show we can play exciting sexy football the people will start to come along. How many times in the past did we attract a large crowd only to play really badly and people go away disappointed ? I would not be at all surprised if we have another couple of good home games to see the numbers improving. Let's hope so.

Two great wins. Very positive start to the season. I have bought a season ticket for the first time this year. Previously I done a small job at the stadium on match days. I was also in the habit of listening to Matt Cole and Peter Floyd on BBC Radio Kent commentary on Gills away games. That pleasure has now been taken away because someone cannot agree with someone else.Grow up for goodness sake. It is early days yet,but all indications are we are going to have a good season and the Play-Offs are a realistic goal. Come on lads.

Sounds very familiar a few years ago?, a certain London club were top at xmas and looking good, but then fell back, and made the play off final!!,and went 2 nil up,and still bloody lost it!!,and last season relegated to L2, and Andy jumped ship for them this summer!!

Sorry Statotheblue but I disagree with you about the ever growing and diversity of the population of the Medway Towns being a factor in the size of the support. Me, like you and many of the supporters who go on a regular basis know at least between 6-10 other people, members of family etc who have been to matches over the years and for one reason or another have decided not to go. Like so many clubs in our position those supporters will quickly come out of the woodwork if we draw a Liverpool or Man Utd in the next round of the cup. The queues will be all the way to the Strand! Although I agree with Gillsjan the cost of tickets is an issue, especially for families. However, it won't stop the mad rush for tickets and money flowing though the ticket office, if as I say we draw a big team in the cup. With the size of the towns the club should have the support of say a Norwich or Ipswich. The club of course has never had the success to built on the fan base, but it's always been a mystery to me why the amount of people coming through the turnstiles is so poor. The club need to be proactive in new ideas to attract new, good time, and ex-supporters back to the club. They are making progress with the Kids for a quid, which should be a long term project. Also the club should tap into the ever growing student population within the various Universities locally. As The chairperson at Norwich once said. 'Where are you'.

Sorry greyfox I really do not think our crowds are so much different to other clubs our size in the south East of England. Northern crowds and inner city teams really do not have the same catchment as us. But teams like Southend and Colchester do they fair no better. The south is very different in my view to the north and Midlands where people do have more local identity. A club like Burnley for example pull in massive crowds for their size of town. But then they also have history a success only 50 years ago they were one of the lands big sides. Then they have had premier league success too. Ipswich and Norwich have also had a massive history compered to us also they are more isolated from London sides.

I was a season ticket holder for 5 seasons, then marraige and 2 kids later i simply can't afford to attend very often, if i do it is considered a luxoury expense, but if we did draw a huge team in the cup, sure i would queue for tickets, not just to see the gills but the other team also, I went to a free prem game 3 seasons back, Fulham v Sunderland at the cottage, and although i support neither side, i was honoured to get to watch that quality of football for a freebie. I think the gills should maybe do a family ticket, 2 adults 2 kids for £30 say, or something like that

The family ticket sounds a reasonable idea and over the last few years I do think the managment team have worked hard trying to entice people to matches and the offers of late have been good. Perhaps a family season ticket? If that were affordable it would guarantee bums on seats for Home Games. I know something like this may upset the single season ticket holders who may feel that they are not getting the same benefits but the club needs young people going forward. ..just a suggestion..
