Football League Liftshare Scheme for Gills fans1) Football League worked out that Gillingham fans will travel 8,747 miles to get to all of the club’s away games this season. As fans, to what extent do you feel that away travel is an issue? 2) How expensive is away travel for Gillingham fans? Do you think it’s getting worse or better each season, and how do you think it could be made more affordable? 3) What about home travel? How busy does Gillingham get around Priestfield on match days? To what extent is traffic or parking spaces an issue? 4) Lastly: What do you think of car sharing, and in what ways do you think it could help fans travel together to games for less?

I am a non driver but as I attend games with at least 2 other friends parking at the temple becomes cheap as does any petrol cost. On top of that you have the drinking benefits. On away trips I prefer the shorter trips although I do feel the atmosphere is often better o the long journeys. I have a dislike of motorway service stations so that is also more possible in a car. A favoured stop off for me on longer trips is the Stibbington dinner near Peterborough. Treating the driver to a nice meal always goes down well. Doing a bit of digging before hand often pays I my book. Coaches are understandably limited on that score.

I have been pleasantly surprised recently to learn that train fares are not as expensive as you might think. There are some excellent ticket prices available if you book in advance and if you regularly travel with the same friend, or with children, you can get rail cards to save another 30%.
For example, 2 adults can travel from Gillingham, all the way to Crewe for £86.70 with a two together railcard, if booked 3 weeks in advance. The same 2 adults could do the trip to Walsall for £27 return between them.

Agree technical as me and my son travelled up to Peterborough from Folkestone recently by train for a shade under £30 each for return fare. Will be interested to hear though from Gills fans on their experiences with Liftshare
