One thing that has surprised me this season in our lack of home support, for a Saturday Derby game with us top of the league I would have expected at least 8000 instead without Southend support only around 5600 Gills fans turned up,why?? Colchester away we only took 1000 fans and we were unbeaten up to that game,Southend took 1400 away fans yesterday sadly it looks like Gills are losing support!!

There is a fixed core. Anything over 5000 has been a "good" crowd for as long as I've been going. Even in the Championship, we only did better for exceptionally attractive opposition who brought lots of fans. Other big crowds have always been the result of lots of free or very cheap tickets and those people don't cone back.
To change that core, there needs to a sustained (not one off) campaign to attract people who don't already identify as gills fans, maybe not even as football fans.
Fans of prem clubs who don't get to their own club often, people moving into the area, women, racial groups who don't traditionally follow football. And I'm sure more could be done re corporate hospitality - most of the posh seats are empty most weeks.
But, as has been said here countless times before, the biggest mistake is putting the price up for teenagers. When my children were small, I could bring a group of their friends. Now they're teens even my own boys don't always come and I certainly don't invite their mates. This at a time when they're gaining interests and habits that will stay with them for be life

Ă€gree technical my teenage years mainly the Gerry Summers years are always a constant imprint on my mind! 8000 crowd verus Doncaster early season top of the table clash in 1980 comes to mind! Football sadly may have a shock coming very soon as the youngsters of today cannot afford to go to football! I so admire the Bayern Munich fans for their protest last Tuesday,Scudamore and his cronies have so much to answer for, please don't get me started!!!

I love your rose tinted glasses for the 1980s tjb. I dont think donny and gills were in the same division in 1980
I do remember counting 23 gills fans at the racecourse ground, just before Xmas 1985. We won 1-0 in dreadful conditions where the ball mostly just sat in puddles

I am puzzled to at the attendance numbers at Priestfield. I don't think there is a bad seat in the ground. The away stand is supposed to be only temporary, but are there any plans on the drawing board for a replacement?

Situation on the temporary stand is that it's there for the foreseeable future. The club has to renew the planning permission from time to time because it is only a temporary planning permission. The club did have planning permission for a new permanent stand but I think that permission has now lapsed. Paul Scally has said that if it looks like the club can't make progress on the Mill Hill site, they might revisit the possibility of proceeding with a new Gillingham End stand. The plans were impressive. It was bigger than the Rainham End. However, it would clearly be a big distraction both in terms of effort and money to go ahead with this all the while the club is pursuing Mill Hill.

I wouldn't see the point of redeveloping the GE. It's far from the worst away accommodation in t he league and we can't fill the ground we already have

PS said if we get promoted and mill hill was no further forward that he would have to look at putting a permanent stand there. Not sure if any championship rules about whats required, wouldn't surprise me if there is.
