I was feeling quite pleased when both Walsall and Burton lost their managers. A lift to out own promotion effort. I thought.
However, with both clubs appointing very experienced and high profile managers I don't feel they will drop out of the race in the new year.
Nigel Clough has a point to prove and is no stranger at Burton, so has hit the road running. I thought oh great when he was appointed they might have a blip playing us so soon after loosing their previous manager. Not to be, as proved by the way they won at the Gills last week. Not only winning, but seeing Clough and a handful of their supporters celebrating was frustrating to say the least.
I've always liked Sean O'Driscoll and is another perfect fit at Walsall, the team already play his brand of football. I can see them going the distance. A very good appointment IMO.
Now the Gills have to play Colchester with a new manager (Kevin Keen) over the Christmas break. Colchester have been on a terrible run away from home lately and the Gills supporters could do without the New managers curse again..
I hope the manager makes it clear to the team that a repeat of the Burton match is unacceptable against Colchester. Colchester are not Burton, but are not a walk over either and a decent team if given the chance to play. They have a number of good players who motivated by a new manager could cause us problems. The Gills must take this game very seriously and put the new manager curse to bed and don't let Colchester be another.
Justin Edinburgh needs to make sure the team turn up in the right frame of mind and there should be no excuses for a poor result.
