Entering the last 6 months of his contract! Would obviously like him to sign a new deal, but I am guessing he will wait until the end of the season? One thing in Gillingham's favour is John isn't 24 until October, so we could still command a fee if he decided to go!

Could we, or was that from sunderland only as he is not a product of our own youth developement. Not sure how it works, really hope he stays though.

Sunderland let him go at least in part because of past injury problems. So no fee is payable there. If we were to sell the whole fee would be gillingham football clubs . It is nothing to do with the youth team it's who holds the registration and has any pervious deal taken place that affects the next deal. If his deal expires we would be relying on the football league giving us fair compensation. Maybe worth the risk if the club feel that he would sign if we are promoted. But like anyone everyone had a price if we did get a substantial bid it could be tempting. A lot could ride on weather it is felt Egan will sign if we have a successful end to the season.

It could be we could see a few moves in the transfer window not only to allow a new face or two but also so a to allow the club to make a more substantial wage offer. Remember that all clubs have to stick to strict rules as to there wage bill. I can see us open to offers on anyone not regularly in the starting line up. Some that are out of contact at the end of the season maybe tempted to move on next month if a suitable deal is offered.

Not sure we have much to get rid of that amounts to much on the bench. Without the loan signings we are pretty light numbers wise and the others just about cover us in most positions, which is what we need. I guess JE main job is to extend Samuels and oshilaja and then Egan next. May have saved a few quid from Davies and houghton going back that may go to improve the Egan offer.

I am not against our loan signings staying. The truth is we really don't know JEDs plans nor should we. I just believe that Justin has earned our trust and if he wish to end a loan spell or let's a player go we simply have have to trust his judgement.

Cant disagree with that, his Loan signings have been first class and from reading today's paper he seems hopeful that Samuels will stay following positive talks with reading, houghton going back and wants oshilaja to stay, but no real statement to say either way. Also says, he will only sign a player if he feels they fit his current squad, but guess they all say that.

But if we agree that the squad is playing above it's potential then it is even more vital that the player or players in question fit in with the camp. This could also be a good reason why we have Doyley training with us.
