Can't say I had heard of him, but a decent career with Watford. Can play in all defensive positions so gives options, but seems the neck surgery meant he was surplus to requirements at Watford and looks like Charlton passed on him. Suppose it all depends if JE thinks he is good enough and looking to offload/loan our existing wing backs out as we no longer play that formation.

I notice he is predominantly a full back having a solid full back may allow more use of Mcglashan. His appearances have clearly been limited by the use of Jackson. Having Doyley would tick a number of boxes. A former skipper so a leader regardless of if he was captain or not his vocal presence could be valuable. Cover right across the back thus not kicking any individual out of the team. Maybe could play defensive midfield or even organise a three at the back system. Said to have played under many different managers at Watford and be a good to work with. All in all from the articles I have read if he seems like a very good bet if he can prove his fitness.

will we get the best from him being 33, are his legs still there, all things for JE to decide, and i trust his judgement, he deserves our support.

When our defence gets really put under pressure it has found it difficult not to panic. It hasn't happened that much thus far but if we stay in the promotion picture the pressure will increase. For that reason alone it would make some sense to try to find a player like Doyley. I have to admit I have very little first hand knowledge of the guy. But he appears to have been working with the youths at Watford. So maybe he is the right type of player to take our team on that next big step forward. It is a really hard one but we need to go from promotion hopefuls to a promotioned side. As we have witnessed many times that takes calmness and experience. For those reasons I really welcome the trial of Lloyd Doyley. Our young side is maturing all the time but they will need help in the coming months of someone not yet on our books if they are to finish the season successfully.

We could definitely do with an older head out there on the pitch.

We have been crying out for a decent leader all season so hopefully we have found one!
