Appreciate your article but I don't agree with a lot of it. Reserve team football is no more competitive than friendlies. Why else are the Premier League arguing that their players don't get competitive action in their development squads ? We just don't have a big enough squad and I think JED's got it right on this one.

It is hard to see how a development game is more competitive than a friendly. It is a signal that our squad is still going to be a small one even if we are promoted.

I've probably got it wrong but seem to think that we withdrew from reserve football a few seasons ago?

Tend to agree with this decision, if our young players are good enough they should be loaned for experience and match time/fitness. I'm sure they will get more from the loan. Also as you say we have a tiny squad.
