Well done Gills, that’s all for tonight, until the next match.

I’d have rather had 3 points in the league, but that was much better tonight. Thought it might be a tough night after a bad miss from Walker and then Wimbledon on top for much of the first half. Second half we thoroughly deserved it.
Great to see some of the “no hopers” who have been criticised doing well. Bagott who was slated in pre season by some was very good again. Wright- a non leaguer looks a very good player, other than one poorly judged run. Keeper (never played a league game) looked solid. Green (written off as a non league reject) changed the game. Mandron (doesn’t score goals) unlucky not to have had 2 and his goal was superbly taken. Williams (too old) looks a top acquisition.
Early days but promising signs in the last 2 games and I think we might have unearthed some gems

I didn’t see the game, but the usual suspects on social media are very quiet at the moment.

Signs are all promising - a clean sheet, a win away from home and substitutions that worked. Well played and well managed.

Good performance, I still think we need at least 2 or 3 more to be competitive. A few injuries and we could be struggling.

Who are these usual suspects that keep getting talked about? There are certain groups on Facebook one of which has a number of users who have spent the whole of pre-season telling everyone at length how terrible our team is and how people like Green are “non-league Nigel’s” and how relegation is almost certain. Now, I agree two swallows does not make a summer, but 3 goals and 2 clean sheets (all goals from people other have already written off) is encouraging. My main worry is how we will manage as the season goes on and player inevitably start to pick up injuries, we aren’t blessed with a huge squad and that lack of depth could come back to bite us.

My all time favourite manager - Mr Brian Clough - talked about having a strong spine to the team . Goalkeeper, Centre Half, Centre Mid, Centre Forward. And here's a true story about him. When I was at College in Derby I had a trial for the club. Clough turned up at the training ground, looked at the lads playing and asked one of the coaching staff about me - who was I , how old was I ? What he didn't know was my sponsor ( my college lecturer) was standing next to him. On getting the answers he said..."well get him off, he's too f**king old and not f**cking good enough". Can't fault him on his instant analysis. ( I was 19 and I wasn't good enough ).

You were good enough to get a trial and you are not that old now that you can still remember it 🤣

Truthfully the only reason he picked me out was that I was noticeably older than the other lads. I had a giant 16 year-old Scottish lad marking me and in the brief 25 minutes during which we got acquainted he kicked me off the park.
