Not surprised by this at all. Have an uncle who brokers large company takeovers and it is typical for the previous owner to stay on board for at least a year to ensure all the books measure up. What normally happens is the seller gets 50% of the sale price on completion and the rest after an agreed period of time. Hopefully this is the case and all parties can move on.
