Unless something happens in the next couple of weeks ,I think any talk of automatic promotion this season is really not on. Where on this team we are going to find the players who are going to score 65 goals or more, because we are not even going to get into the playoffs without them. MK Dons, Doncaster and Port Vale all look stronger than the Gills, leaving us fighting for a play off spot with teams like Carlisle,Crewe, Bradford, Chesterfield . I expected more this year from our owner, perhaps he has another signing or two up his sleeve before the season starts, I sure hope so.

Clearly have some players to shift before he can bring anymore in. We have a pretty big squad at the moment. Bookies don’t share your sentiment, 3rd favourites with most.

Bookies don't like paying out, lol. I would give my soul to the devil if Gillingham got automatic promotion this year, well if the devil didn't already have it, I just don't see where the goals are coming from, were relying on a guy that came from 9th tier Risborough Rangers (Bucks)I think he scored 40 goals in 20 appearances before moving to Enfield FC where he scored 40 goals in 85 appearances,so I am guessing were expecting him to score 20+ goals this season. Nevitt scores on average once every four games, Little 1 goal every 11 games, Nolan once every there or four games. GO WYLLIE,score 20.

I'd agree - the squad isn't there and others have invested better with some real statement signings - not least at Port Vale. We can't spend money we don't have and clearly need to move players on before we can buy. I still think the Dack deal will happen and maybe if he stays fit, he's the joker in the pack that pushes us over the line. If fit, he's a better signing than anyone has made in this league.

Dack could prove to be inspired, providing he stays fit. My biggest concern is still strikers. Our teams that have done well before have had 3/4 quality centre forwards and often strengthened in this area either at the start of the season. Yes we have made some good signings, but I still feel we are well short up top. Levitt could be the one, but nolan and Rowe are wingers, wylie might step up or like the walkers could be out of his depth. Andrews just needs to stay fit, but even if he does I've seen nothing to convince me that he has more than 10 a season in him, same for Oli if he stays. Gbode for me has this season to make or break his gills career The problem we have had for the past few season is that the likes of oliver, mandron and Hawkins are almost guaranteed a starting slot regardless of form because there is no one pushing them on the bench as the quality isn't there, hence playing an unfit Andrews for the last month of the season. More decent strikers, more goals, more points, unfortunately Brad the previous owner knows these cost money.

Have you all missed the fact Nolan & Nevitt each scored 17 in L2 last season? And I think we have 3 or 4 more players capable of getting 10 plus. Wakeling, Jonny Williams (scored 10 for Swindon), Andrews. We might also have between 5 and 10 from Masterson, Little, and Rowe and now maybe 10 from Dack Promotion teams don’t often have a 20+ striker down here. They have multiple 10+ goalscorers. Top 7 for me. Dack would maybe push us into autos.

I’m probably the biggest pessimist amongst you, but isn’t it a bit early to say we aren’t going to score enough when we have just hit 4 in our first league game. I agree our forwards haven't been real quality in recent seasons and I don’t think we have a 20 a season one now, but in the past our service to them has been extremely poor. I for one wouldn’t have liked playing up top for the past two seasons, it’s been dreadful and feeding off scraps. I hope from what I have seen so far is that our midfield continue to move the ball quicker and wider and increase the supply and its quality, then I think we will have 1/2 players who will get into double figures and with others contributing as mentioned above from other positions then we will have enough. Having said the above, if we can find another Eaves, Taylor, Asaba or alike, then I wouldn’t say no!

Moonlightgraham I've now reached the conclusion that you are on a wind up. There is no reason at all why we cant get promoted, Dack is an interesting option, we ll see.

Gills don't have that natural 20 goal striker this season, it's debatable if Nevitt will score that many. He fits into the mould of a hardworking Dean Ashton kind of striker who use to play for West Ham Utd.
We do look like a side that has plenty of goals elsewhere in the side and fully expect us to be promoted this season.
The return of Dack will give the rest of the team that huge boost to perform consistently well this campaign and his presence will surely make us a class act in this division.
The Gills should fear nobody from this division.
