We completely lacked ideas apart from punting it up to the big lad.
I don't expect any Gillingham player to be intelligent enough to run the country, I do on the other hand expect them to be intelligent enough to realise when something isn't working.
If Weston/Brucey/McDonald actually ran at the centre backs I think we would have caused them problems.
Instead I got neck ache from the long ball spectacle... I feel a law suit coming on.

I completely agree, I spent most of the night trying to spot the ball amongst the floodlights. Very similar game to Saturdays. Lets hope we don't have to endure this long ball tactics all season. There doesn't seem a plan B. I think when Barry Fuller kicked the ball straight at their player within seconds of the free kick being given, basically trying to get the player booked, just about sums up him as a captain. Useless. Make Lawrence captain.

long ball game drove me mad, as soon as we put in on the floor and passed it we looked half decent.
with regard to fuller , very committed but has to be the mangers eyes and ears on the pitch, he has to be able to tweek and change the tactics. i know he is no roy keane or john terry...but he has to grow more into the roll, think a bit more about the game
The Cat Man...sort it out Hess.

And whats the problem with Barry Fuller kicking the ball at the Southend player. He wasn't going to move in a hurry and was blocking the taking of a free kick. It dosn't show Fullers weakness, it shows his strengths to get the psychological edge over the opposition and make him retaliate, which he did and should have been cautioned for kicking the ball away. If anything it shows why Fuller should be captain.

If you think that was clever, maybe Sunday league on hackney marshes on a Sunday morning is your thing, Gillingham supporter like you have forgotten what good full backs were like over the last few years. The player in question didn't even have time to move away. It's a shame Fullers brain as captain doesn't work that quick in organizing the team on the pitch. Psychological edge, give me a break. Sorry, but I'm not a great fan of Fuller.

Sorry, but I'm not a great fan of Fuller. Well when you have a player like Barry Corr, who has a history of losing his temper and doing stupid things then as a player I would want to wind him up as much as possible to put him off his game. I thought Corr had ample time to move away and even when Fuller kicked it at him he subsequently kicked the ball away, underlying my point that Fuller had got to him. You dont have to be a good full back to do such things, you have to be clever and use your brains. As it is, Fuller is a perfectly good full back at this level and he has proved that in the last couple of years.

clearly you are not a fan of fuller- and you may have a point about his captaincy- since i cannot hear from the stands how well he organises the rest of the team - i cannot comment
but what i do know is that he is one of the best full backs in the lower divisions- by a mile not much gets past him
BTW the tactic of clearing a ball "down the line" or alternatively having it strike the opposing player and going out of play is "as old as the hills"- so what all the bollocks about what full backs "used to be like" is- i just dont know
