quite simply, the whole setup at gfc is not good enough.
hess is tactically very naive and second rate, the setup of the team is awful, poor tactics, players out of position, spiller is not a winger for example, he proved this during the last two matches, so hess plays him there yet again! could he not see what the rest of priestfield saw? the same with palmer at left back. he may even have to drop his golden boy when barcham is fit again, with a midfeild of barcham, weston, bentley/palmer and payne, so no room for "disco" spiller!
the fitness has also lapsed since danny ellis left the club, (anyone notice how fit southend's players looked compared to ours and they were putting their subs through their paces at hlaf time), we have a goalkeeping coach who has never played league football, an assistant manager who is arrogant, inexperienced and clueless and a coach who is a lovable legend but a luxury we cannot afford. hess also said he would have a small but quality squad, so then wasted money on unproven, inexperienced players like white, payne, sinclair (too slow for this level and cannot read the game) and to a degree macdonald - too many players who need time which we cannot afford them. also abroah, why sign him then not use him? worth a punt surely? and the french guy looks like he needs to go on loan to get his condfidence so not really an asset at the moment?
that said, hess can only work with what he has. a good experienced assistant manager/coach would do wonders, someone for him to learn off as stimson did from mark robson who was the biggest influence in us going up in 2009. he (allegedly) asked for a good goalkeeper but was told he would have to sell julian first (some hope). he said after signing two proven players (lawrence and akinfenwa) he was over budget, despite 7 players going. this is typical mr scally not putting his money where his mouth is - demanding promotion but with little or no investment.
