On tonights performance Gills will still make the play-offs and Chesterfield will go up as champions
Whereas Gills up and at em tactics with plenty of shots on target but nothing to show fort their efforts, Chesterfield had a bit more nous and were always looking to catch Gills on the counter attack before applying the clinical finish

the good thing is that we matched them- so we need fear no one else in this division
with more clinical finishing we could have had it wrapped up by half time

A lot of positives to be taken out of the game. Jackman(who was unlucky to be substituted) and Maher had really good games in the midfield and Lawrence at the back was also excellent. The only minus was Westons pathetic attempt of a tackle(or dipping his little toe in, in case he gets hurt) for the 1st goal. I think we saw the league champions tonight

I agree with the comments made so far but would add on the plus side Rooney and Jack Payne both did well after coming on as subs and on the minus side who was meant to be marking the 1st goal scorer who ever it was,was nowhere to be seen . I am afraid even with Stuart Murdock as keeper coach Julian kicking is no better and I am told by a friend in medway stand that he got the 2nd goal all wrong looking for a cross when the guy just rolled it into the net I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REPLAY THIS TIME!I feel I have given the guy every chance and so has Hess and Scally (bring in the coach) .But Enough is enough he has to go even if we have to sell someone to do it. Both Chesterfield and Torquay's keepers are far better than ours to say nothing of the rest of this league.

Good performance, but what it showed is the lack of balance in the squad. Rooney and Payne did well coming on, but we were crying out to have a decent striker to come on. It just wasn't Cody's night last night but we had no chance to change it. Ideally we need to move a central midfielder on to provide space in the squad for a forward.

So let me see if I've got this right, Torquay and Chesterfield both have brilliant keepers who pulled off unbelievable saves, yet Cody is at fault for them being so good.

I think the idea is that we would have won if it wasn't for the opposition's goalkeeper putting in a man of the match performance.... The Cody being wasteful is a slightly different issue. On one hand, he finds chances, but on the other hand he isn't certain to always score. I'm not sure what his goal to shot ratio is but against the top teams who will limit his chances, we might lack the goals. We couldn't score against top of the table Chesterfield, we couldn't score against second place Wycombe. We may have played well for both, but our failure to win makes me believe we will sadly fall short of automatic promotion.... Come the playoffs, will Cody convert the limited chances that'll fall his way?

Consensus of opinion seems to highlight our lack of capable striker back up, may be this can be permanently resolved come June when we can off load some expensive furniture, just hope that it does not prove to be our Achilles heel before then. In view of our finances, what are our chances of being able to afford a loan player before then?

Come June, we might need 2 new strikers plus a back up.... We will need at least one striker to replace McDonald for a start and maybe a second if Akinfenwa goes elsewhere......

Lack of foresight on my part john, but oh so true. Our only chance of keeping McDonald is if both ourselves and Norwich get promoted. If Norwich reach the premier league, I'm not sure if McDonald will be seen as premier league quality and they *might* be prepared to let him go. And although we'd have the benefit of him spending a season here, he'd prefer a first division side to us if we fail to go up.
